Anatomy of the Urinary Bladder
How is this test Performed ?

 This test is performed in a radiology department, by an X-ray technician

using all aseptic precautions under supervision by a Radiologist. There is no
special preparation required but Urine Examination and Cultures are
necessary before Retrograde Urethrogram. If cultures are positive the test

negative then prophylactic antibiotic is given.

 The patient lies on his side and a preliminary film of the urethra and
bladder is obtained prior to injection of a contrast agent (dye). This helps
to determine the proper radiographic technique and patient positioning.

 Dye is injected directly into the urethra and X-rays are obtained.
