I. MY COMMUNITY MAP

Brgy Libis, Quezon City

Population as of 2019: 4,018

This barangay is known for Eastwood

City, an 18.5 hectare business and
commercial complex which has a mall
and residential area. It is also known
because of the Padre Pio Shrine right
beside Eastwood City.

Brgy Libis’s borders are marked in green while my village borders are marked in black.

II. NATURAL DISASTER

Barangay Libis has taken damage from a lot of natural disasters, most commonly floods and
earthquakes. It is not really affected because it is not a low-lying area like Manila and
Marikina, which are close to bodies of water. During rainy season we experience flooding,
although we aren’t really submerged. The height of the water goes up to about an average of
15-30 cm at most, but the height is much less inside villages and subdivisions.
Data:

This is the only data I have found

concerning Barangay Libis. I took this
from a video where it was flooding
and this is the water level outside our
village.

From the Youtube account of The

Multi- Hobbyist, posted on Sept. 13,
2017.

Title: Flood @ Acropolis, Libis Quezon

City, 09/12/17
III. DISASTER RISKS

Based on the flood hazard map below, our barangay has a low risk of flooding inside it.
But in the borders, the risk is much higher because of the Marikina River beside it. Most
floods that occur in our barangay occur near the borders.

Areas marked in yellow have a low

chance of flooding and the rain level is
below 15mm.

Areas marked in orange have a

medium chance of flooding and the
rain level is between 15- 30 mm.

Areas marked in red have a high

chance of flooding and the rain level is
above 30mm.

The green mark borders my barangay

while the black mark borders my
village.

Hazard:
Outside my village, just along E Rodriguez Ave, electrical posts may collapse if the wind or
rain becomes very strong.

Vulnerability and Exposure

The Marikina river is just at the back of Eastwood City, and its residents are highly vulnerable
to heavy rains because of the river.
