EFFECTS OF GREEN LOGISTICS ON ENVIRONMENT 2

Introduction

Logistics is the planning, execution, organization, and control of how goods flow.

Logistics involves the development of the product, purchase, manufacture, and lastly, its transfer

to the user of the product. Logistics aims at meeting the peoples and markets demand at a low

cost and capital, and also build the relationship with consumers to be long term (Christopher,

2016). Green logistics involves enhancing the business management from market and

government point of view while looking at the limitations; This leads to the reduction of

pollution on the environment.

Green logistics terms all efforts to determine and minimize the impact of logistic

activities on ecology. It includes the actions of the flow of products, service, and information,

both forward and reverses between consumption and origin. The aim is to make the justifiable

value of the company by balancing efficiency in the economy and environment.

Effects of green logistics on the environment

There optimization of Natural resources.

People use a lot of natural resources more than what the earth can produce; This leads to

air and water pollution, degradation of soils, deforestation, and a decrease in the number of

species on the planet. There is also the exhaustion of nonrenewable resources (Radulescu, Popa

& Iovitu, 2013) Resource exploitation is more upstream in the supply chain. Emphasis needs to

be put down on a more efficient way of using the resources, looking for more possible renewable

resources.

There is Reduced emission of gases

Gas emissions are categorized into pollutants and toxic emissions (Lelieveld,

Evans, Giannadaki, & Pozzer, 2015). Toxic gas emissions come from chemicals. Pollutant

emissions, on the other hand, affect the environment. They may not necessarily be toxic. Due to

green logistics, more efficient ways of producing goods have been invented. This has helped in

having a safer environment

There is a reduced generation of waste

Waste is the volume of resources not transformed to the required product (Singh, &

Ordoñez, 2016). All the effects of logistics on environmental inflict costs. These costs are borne

by those performing the logistics. Others have a broader impact on the public and environment

that are excluded from a corporation’s financial records. The green logistics has ensured that

companies generate waste in few amounts

There is a high consumption of Water

Water consumption is expressed in terms of the number of Water spent per unit output.

Water consumption can be due to evaporation from cooling Water, water vapor escaping to the

sky, water loss through the treatment of waste or disposal, and water loss through deep-well

instillation (Qarroot, 2015).

Reduced cost of products

The main aim of logistics is minimizing the cost of products. This reduction is due to the

use of cost-effective ways of production. It has also been made possible due to the use of

renewable sources of energy; This led to a boost in business performance.

Conclusion

Green chain supply management gives companies a better use of resources and waste

reduction. The adoption of green logistics allows and makes it possible to reduce the

consumption of fuels by looking for more effective methods and forms. It also makes the

company more competitive in the market. The green chain management tries to remove waste,

environment.
