A. Purpose of Experiment
The purpose of this experiment is to distinguish between alcohol and phenol by using
chemical reaction.

E. Conclusion
Based on the result of experiment, we can conclude that to distinguish the alcohol and
phenol we can react the both of compound with water to know the solubility. So, for alcohol, it
is soluble in water but it depends on the chain carbon, if the chain carbon more longer so it is
not insoluble in water. The reaction of alcohol and phenol with alkali also can distinguish the
properties of the both solution. The both of solution can react with Na metal to form alkoxide
and hydrogen but it is more vigorous than the one with alcohol because phenol is more acidic.
Whereas the ferric chloride test we used for phenol compound to indicate the phenol groups.
