Statement of Purpose

I am Mahdiul Islam; I had completed my Primary School at 2004 from Elizabeth Marbel
Primary School and started my high schooling in 2005 at Khulna Public College. I passed my
Secondary School Certificate exam from Khulna public college in June, 2010 with GPA 5.00
out of 5.00. In July 2010 I got admission in Khulna Public College for my college. My whole
education was started form this institution. I appeared in board exam in 2012 with 4.10 out of 5.
After college I have decided moved to Dhaka. In December 2012, I admitted into American
International University Bangladesh (AIUB) as an undergraduate student of Computer Science
and Engineering Department. AIUB is one of the best leading private university for Computer
Science in Bangladesh. My University life was so grateful to me because of learning
environment and lots for friends, In that I had completed some International courses like
‘Introduction to Cyber Security’ by Cisco and one basic course on Linux from ‘Linux
Professional Institute. AT 3rd year I had participated in networking competition in inter
university CS fest and I got 4th place for cisco based routing and switching. Then at March, 2016
I had been taken admission in ‘Cisco Certified Network Associate Course’ in my university. I
completed 4 years Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering in May,
2016. At July 2017 I sat for CCNA routing and switching vendor Exam and I passed with a
great success and got 2 years vendor license on CISCO.

I choose Australia as my next study destination because Australian degrees are well-known with
a quality education and Australia has the third highest number of international students in the
world. I did Bachelor of Science degree from my home country, but after that, I realized, my
knowledge and professionalism is not up to the mark in comparison to others, who earned their
bachelor degree from a developed country like Australia. To get familiar with the rapidly
changing business environment and to know about the multinational corporate culture, Australia
is the best for their cultural diversities, the high standard of education and research facilities. It
is also mentionable that the fee structure of Australian universities is reasonable and affordable
in comparison with other developed countries. After all in Australia, especially in Melbourne is
ranked 3rd best student city in the world by QS in 2018.
This prompted me to look for quality options overseas. After a meticulous evaluation on
different country options (USA, Canada and Australia) that provide quality education on above
mentioned course, I decided that Australia would be the most suitable alternative for me.
Australia is famous for its dynamic and progressive education program which promises up-to-
date learning on any given topic and also offers a modern and safe lifestyle. Also, Melbourne
being such a modern multi-cultural city, I would have the opportunity to meet other
international students from across the world. This ensures a rich cultural experience that not
many other cities can provide. Australian universities are widely recognized for excellence in
myriads of disciplines, especially in technical and business principles. Degrees from some of the
Australian universities are recognized worldwide. Given all these reasons mentioned, Australia
was an obvious option. The educational institutions in Australia offer a pleasant learning
environment, and as an international student I will have the opportunity to meet other
international students from across the world that would provide me with a rich cultural and
social experience, and also acquire sound academic background allowing me job opportunities
in my field of expertise after completion of my course at La Trobe University, Australia. I
believe that the subject I have chosen would greatly enhance my knowledge and learning to
develop myself for a successful career, and would help me discern the desired path for my
career development in the field of Master of Information and Communication Technology.

The same program is available in Bangladesh. Master in Information Technology only offered
in Bangladesh by University of Dhaka and Jahangirnagar University. However, number of seats
in this course is very low and competition is very high into public university of Bangladesh. On
the other hand, students who have completed their bachelor course only from this department
can take part in regular postgraduate education. Others have to take the evening program and
must have at least 2 years work experience. Also the teaching methods, lack of Internship
opportunity and syllabus as far company required is not up to mark. That’s why I have decided
to go for overseas education. In USA GRE is required for enrollment. After completed my
Bachelor of Science, I realized that my knowledge is not up to the mark in comparison to others,
who earned their bachelor from a developed country like Australia. Tuition costs and living
expenses are very reasonable and affordable in Australia in comparison to other developed
countries like USA, UK and Canada. In addition, getting opportunity to part time work up to 20
hours per week and full time during holidays for international students is really helpful to
manage living cost in Australia which is per year AUD 20,290. There are available scholarships
and a wide range of on campus and off campus accommodation options are also available for
international students in Australia which make a suitable place for international students. The
tuition fee and living cost amount of USA, UK is also higher. The tuition fee and living cost

offered only 12-14 subjects.

The educational institutions in Australia offer a pleasant learning environment, and as an

international student I will have the opportunity to meet other international students from across
the world that would provide me with a rich cultural and social experience, and also acquire
sound academic background allowing me job opportunities in my field of expertise after
completion of my postgraduate course at LTU. I believe that the subject I have chosen would
greatly enhance my knowledge and learning to develop myself for a successful career, and
would help me discern the desired path for my career development in the field of business and
IT.

Master of Information and Communication Technology program at LTU offers a sound

education in all aspects of computer science, information technology and communications
engineering for me to intend to make a career in profession. Globally, employment
opportunities in the ICT industry considerably outnumber the current number of ICT graduates
and are predicted to do so for some years. Graduates with the advanced skills and knowledge
attained in this course can expect to be highly sought after by a range of industries and
organizations seeking people with a high level ICT qualification.

La Trobe's Master of Information and Communication Technology gives me the computer

science, electronic engineering and networking skills to take the next step in your ICT career.
Study how to plan and develop industry-focused IT projects and explore innovative solutions to
major cyber security issues. I'll learn: Project management and documentation, Development
and design, Security solutions and Security solutions. MICT program at LTU will help me to
manage projects and communicate effectively, Train and support teams, clients and upper
management, Create and manage software, websites and IT systems, Design and maintain large
corporate networks, Find the best ways to tackle common IT issues like computer hacking,
software piracy and security breaches, Learn how to create and implement technical programs
and systems, including e-commerce, data systems and mobile applications.

Before selecting my preferred university, I did lot of web search and brainstorming and
shortlisted the universities like Deakin University and Monash University. At the end I select La
Trobe University. La Trobe is in the top 1.3% of universities worldwide (Times Higher
Education World University Rankings, 2019; Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities 2018).

Comparing to the other universities of the Australia, the tuition costs of LTU is affordable to me
which amount is AUD $53,700, LTU offers a generous variety of scholarships to international
students. Moreover, La Trobe University is a leader in industry engagement which allows its
students to participate into various internship opportunities that helps the students to establish
professional networks. In the recent years, LTU has established itself as a research focused
university with many research activities. The university provides excellent student support
services like Counseling, Accessibility, Student Mentors, Student Blog. LTU also provides total
support to their students from the beginning to end of their courses such as carrier guidance,
academic supports and welfare, study skills, workshop and monitoring educational progress. The
Master of Information and Communication Technology is accredited by the Australian Computer

With my little working experience in telecom sector and education knowledge in Cisco and
Linux I realize that knowledge about Information technology is a must to shine in my current
profession. We have to gather knowledge with the different networks, buying new networking
devices, knowing about upcoming networking protocol, always concern about security threats ,
how to manage our huge networking and give the best support to our service. So knowledge
about routing, switching, cyber security has a great value in my chosen career path and a high
communication skill is also required. The Bachelor of Science will provide me the opportunity to
coherent theoretical and technical knowledge of Computer science and its applications, use
technologies to Identify, locate, evaluate and disseminate and communicate information in the
field of technology, identify solutions to a diverse range of authentic problems and engage
effectively in different environments solution and contexts reflecting social, sustainable, ethical,
economic, and global perspectives in the field of technology that will enhance my ability to work
effectively in the global real networking environment. After completing my master degree from
Australia then I will able to apply for an expert level post on my working field. It is a 2 years full
time course; I may will always keep focus on core networking study like wireless network
engineering , pervasive network design , Network , System and web security. In the Bachelor of
Science were required to complete at least 3 major course and I had chosen advance operating
System, Network Security, Advance Database Bachelor of Science which were so much
effective so much effective for my current career path. So I think in master’s program my
courses will help for my upcoming career.

After completing this program I see myself in an important position like IP network Specialist,
System Administrator, Senior ICT manager, ICT support technician, ICT consultant , Network
architecture, ICT system test engineer, Network analyzer and my expected salary will be higher.
It will also create new opportunities for me if I want to switch my chosen career. It can help me
to build a career as an , international Network security executive, and network analyst, manager
in ICT dept at any company or security executive or enroll in a public or privet sector in which
cross-border information technology is involved. Robi Axiata Limited, Banglalink, Grameen
Phone, Sysnet bd, Fiber@Home, Summit, Beximco IT department and Bank IT sector, Security
Specialist at IGW, ICX companies are some of my major targets for my future career
development where my salary would be BDT 150000-200000 or above in Bangladesh .

My father is an ex-army of Bangladesh military who always inspires me. Now he is an owner of
construction farm and has one joint venture construction farm where he works for Bangladesh
defense ministry construction all. My mother is a house-wife. Besides this, I am the eldest child
in my family and I have to look after my family members and my family properties which have
the market value of nearly 10 Million BDT at this moment including 2 houses, 3 plots in a
housing project and farmlands and my father has a construction business in Bangladesh
military. I want to stay with my family and my beloved parents which is the main reason to
return back to my country. Moreover, Bangladesh has a bright future in ICT. Recently
Bangladesh has lunched satellite for out better communication and our government’s vision in
making Digital Bangladesh. Every year millions of dollar is earning by our great freelancer. Our
every working field is now become digitalized. So I think we have an Information Technology
future in my home country. No other place can be better than here for the implementation of all
my knowledge and skills and helping her to prosper.

Higher education visa is designed for students who applied for and been accepted to study in a
registered full-time course at an educational institution in Australia. Duration of this kind of
visa is normally equal to the course duration. This type of visa holders can’t work more than 40
hours per fortnight and must maintain a satisfactory attendances in class. My sponsor must have
paid his Overseas Student Health Cover fees before applying for visa. And I must inform the
institute within 7 days if address is changed.
