THEORETICAL DISCUSSIONS OF TERMS FORMATION

ABSTRACT
With the expansion and explosion of academic disciplines, terms
formation has always been underlined by linguists and other experts
of particular disciplines. Term formation starts from concept and
moves to designation of a term. Although it is a branch of study of
applied linguistics nevertheless it is a multidisciplinary approach.
However some people consider it as an independent science because
it has its scientific rules. From the concept and very beginning of this
discipline till the formation of the terminology there are many stages,
theories and principles which should be followed during the formation
of terms. Terminology has its own theory, principles and procedures.
This paper elaborates all these basic and theoretical discussions of
terminology and term formation. It has also explored the ways of term
formation in Pashto language.

The first meaning of the word terminology is “the set of special words
belonging to a science, an art, an author, or a social entity,”for
example, the terminology of medicine or the terminology of computer
specialists.
