DDM2902 PROPOSED PACKAGING DESIGN

PACKAGING FOR L&M CIGARETTES


DESIGN

Client: Liggett Group, formerly known as Liggett & Myers


Tobacco Company, is the fourth largest tobacco company in
the United States.
Objective: To solve the problem of buying/storing lighter
along with cigarettes. To create a modern Designthat will
appeal to the current audience.
Solution: To create a 2in1 solution pack that could storethe
lighter or a new generation design that would no longer
require a lighter to operate.
Audience: People above the age of 21.
Outcome: To make it convinient for audience to buy
cigarettes without spending additional money on lighterand
also to make it easier to carry cigarette and a lighter type
solution in a single attractive package.
Personal Objective: To try product and package designing.
I wanted to think of a creative solution that has not been
attempted in the industry before and also understand why
such particular solutions are not feasible.
Rationale: My proposed solution addresses the same
problem in two particular ways. The addresses
the problem of using a lighter by creating a round blue patch
of oxidizing agent such as potassium chlorate, mixed with

stick. This patch when struck against the red strip at the side
of the box which contains red phosphorus, binder and
powdered glass, the blue patch then spontaneously lights up,
lighting up the tobacco end within 2-3 seconds.The
blue-patch is held onto the tobacco-end of the cigarette by a
thick paper which the user grips onto. This thick paper also
helps in solving the problem of the cigarette stick breaking
from the striking force due to its fragile structure.

My addresses the problem of storing/buying


the lighter and cigarettes together by creating a storage
space for matchsticks which can be lit from the side of the
package. It also serves dual purpose,as once the matchsticks
are used up, the storage space can also be used to hold a
lighter.
