Rolling Period: Rolling Period Is Time Interval From Extreme STBD Through Extreme Port and Back To Extreme STBD
Rolling Period is time interval from extreme stbd through extreme port and back to extreme stbd.
When a ship has a comparatively large GM, the righting moments at small angles of heel will also be
comparatevely large. The ship will have a comparatively short time period, and will roll quickly - and
perhaps violently - from side to side. A ship in this condition is said to be 'stiff'.
When the GM is comparatively small, the righting moments at small angles of heel will also be small.
The ship will thus be much easier to incline and will not tend to return so quickly to the initial position.
The time period will be comparatively long and a ship under this condition is said to be 'tender' or
'crank'.

T = 2 pi * K / sqrt( g * GM)
(by D.R.Derrett, Ship's Stability for Master and Mates, 6th impression, 1982)
where M = the ship's mass, M = W / g
K = the radius of gyration, which appears near to the longitudinal axis through the ship's centre
of gravity.
W = the ship's weight
g = the acceleration due to gravity
I = mass moment of inertia of the ship about the longitudinal axis
K2 = I / M
