MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - INTRODUCTION
General Hydraulic system A supplies pressure for these airplane
systems:
Hydraulic systems A and B operate independently to
supply hydraulic power to the airplane systems. Both - Landing gear extension and retraction
systems operate at 3000 psi normal pressure. - Nose wheel steering
- Left thrust reverser
Hydraulic System A and B - Ailerons
- Elevators
Hydraulic systems A and B are almost the same. The - Elevator feel
reservoir supplies fluid for the pumps. The pneumatic - Rudder
system supplies pressurized air through the reservoir - Flight spoilers 3 and 6
pressurization module to the reservoir. - Ground spoilers 0, 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9
- Alternate brake system
The EDP supply shutoff valve controls the fluid supply - Power transfer unit (PTU) motor.
to the engine driven pump (EDP).
Hydraulic system B supplies pressure for these airplane
Each system has an engine-driven pump (EDP) and an systems:
electric motor-driven pump (EMDP). The two pumps in
each system supply pressure continuously. There are no - Alternate landing gear retraction
demand pumps. - Alternate nose wheel steering
- Right thrust reverser
Both pumps send pressure to the pressure module. The - Ailerons
pressure module cleans the fluid and monitors the - Elevators
pressure from each pump. The pressure module also - Elevator feel
protects the system from over pressure. - Rudder
- Flight spoilers 2 and 7

Case drain filter modules clean the case drain fluid - Trailing edge flaps
from each pump. The heat exchanger cools the case drain - Leading edge flaps and slats.
fluid before it goes back to the reservoir.

MAIN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS - CONTROLS AND INDICATIONS
General Training Information Point
The controls for the main hydraulic system pumps are on Because the EDP depressurization solenoid gets
the hydraulic panel. This panel is on the P5 forward electrical power when the EDP control switch is OFF,
overhead panel. you normally keep the switch in the ON position. While
you do maintenance, if the switch is in the OFF
The engine fire switches on the P8 aft electronics position for a long time, you should open the circuit
panel control the fluid supply to the EDPs. breaker for the EDP solenoid.
