IDENTIFIED PROBLEM

Families residing in a remote location do not have an

access to electricity and stable light source.
Identified Problem
EVIDENCES

Designers Martin Riddiford and Jim Reeves led to the

insight that thanks to dramatic improvements in LED
technology, it would be possible to create electric light by
harnessing the energy potential of gravity.
• After more than two years of experiments, Jim and Martin
had created a working prototype and were ready to test the
product in the real world.
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS

Solar Panels Wind Turbines Piezoelectricity

CHALLENGES OF ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS

• Solar Panels

- expensive cost and inconsistent availability, have prevented

it from becoming a more utilized energy source.

• Wind Turbines

- noise produced by the turbine blades and visual impacts to

the landscape.
Proposed Solution

• We wanted to create a product that can harness the

potential energy of gravity and turn this into electrical
energy which then we can use to power small devices
like a basic light.
Proposed Solution & Target Market

1.Do you agree that this is a must have problem?

Yes. Electricity means end of energy poverty.

Electricity means having longer productive
working hours due to the availability of lights in the
evenings.
What are the demographics of the people who confirmed that
this is a must- have problem?

• We think that people living in rural areas and provinces are the
ones that do not have access to electricity especially the ones
far from urban areas. We estimate about 4 out of 10 Filipinos are
living without electricity.

• We believe that they are addressing the problem by using

alternatives such as lamps, candles, and the like
Value Proposition

• Benefits: People living in rural areas will have the

chance to experience electricity
Impact to Community

• It also gives the family more time, due to

electric lights and other appliances

Bringing electricity into a remote household

reduces the family expenditures fo arging costs)
that can be replaced by direct electricity access.
