2019 UW-Madison: Internships in Ecology

Created course for students to identify and apply for internships in ecology.
Course included opportunities for professional development, as well as skills
needed in a variety of ecological careers, such as reading primary literature,
networking with conservation professionals, and writing small grant proposals.

Teaching assistant

2018 UW-Madison: Biology Core Curriculum Evolution, Ecology, & Genetics

Honors biology course for sophomores provided an in-depth exploration of


evolution, ecology, and genetics with an emphasis on experimental design,
active group work, and scientific writing. Responsibilities included designing
activities for discussion, facilitating labs, and providing feedback on lab reports
and presentations.

2016 UW-Madison: Behavioral Ecology

Course for advanced biology majors investigated how and why organisms adjust
their behavior to dynamic environments, as well as experimental design and
contemporary conservation issues. Responsibilities included leading small-group
discussion of primary literature and designing exams.

2014-15 UW-Madison: Introduction to Biology I & II

Survey courses for first- and second-year biology majors broadly covered
genetics, cellular/molecular biology, animal anatomy/physiology, plant
anatomy/physiology, evolution, and ecology. Responsibilities included leading
small-group discussions of lecture content, facilitating labs, guiding independent
research projects, and designing exams.

2013-14 Miami University: Field Botany

Course for non-majors explored the diversity of plants found around campus and
the importance of plant diversity for society. Responsibilities included syllabus
and lecture development, organizing field trips, and designing exams.

2013 Miami University: Introduction to Biology

Survey course for first-year biology majors broadly covered genetics,


cellular/molecular biology, and animal anatomy/physiology. Responsibilities
included facilitating lab sections.

2012 Miami University: Plants, Humanity and the Environment

Course for non-majors covered the relationships between plant physiology,


agriculture, and human society, as well as conservation issue. Responsibilities
included leading small-group discussions of lecture content and designing
exams.

Guest lecturer

2019 Northern Illinois University: Conservation Biology

Gave lecture for advanced undergraduate and graduate students discussing the
causes of climate change, spatial and temporal patterns of climate change, and
organismal responses to climate change.

2018 UW-Madison: Behavioral Ecology

Gave lectures during two classes for advanced biology majors discussing
experimental design, observational versus experimental studies, and data
analysis.

Pedagogy training

2016-18 DELTA Program participant, UW-Madison

Participated in two semesters of elective pedagogy training, including formal
seminars on Effective Research Mentoring and the College Classroom (survey of
evidence-based teaching practices).

2013 Graduate Student Teaching Enhancement Program participant, Miami University

Participated in a semester-long elective pedagogy workshop which introduced


evidence-based teaching practices and tips for evaluating student assessments.

Other

2019-20 Getting StaRted: R programming in biology research, Northern Illinois University

Developed an informal semester-long workshop to teach graduate and


undergraduate students the basics of using the R statistical language for
biological research.
