Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to determine the

effectiveness of modules as supplementary materials in

teaching Institutional Correction (CA1 Part-2) to the

fourth year students of BS Criminology of Laguna State

Polytechnic University, Santa Cruz, Campus, Santa Cruz,

Laguna S.Y. 2016-2017. Forty (40) students were selected

from the fourth year BS Criminology students to create

experimental and control group which had the same

characteristics. Forty (40) respondents were administered

in both groups. The researcher used quasi experimental

group design; this method did not employ random

assignment. The control and the experimental groups had

the same characteristics. The experimental group received

the treatment or the module and used it as the

supplementary material while undergoing the subject.

Specially, it sought to answer the following questions:

What is the mean level of performance of the control

group and experimental group in terms of Pre-test and

Post-test, Is there any significant difference between

the pre-test scores of the control group and experimental

group, Is there any significant difference between the

post-test scores of the control group and experimental

group, Is there any significant difference between the

pre-test scores and post-test scores of the control group

and experimental group? Based on the data gathered, the

findings of the study were as follows: The result of

experimental group pre-test remarks a needs improvement

while the control group pre-test remarks of poor. The

post-test results of the experimental group remarks of

satisfactory while the post-test of control group got

poor remarks. There was a big difference between the

scores of the experimental and control group since the

post-test mean scores of both groups were higher than the

pre-test mean scores. Both groups gained knowledge and

understanding with the use of module. Students should be

introduced and be familiarized to the different

instructional materials like module for them to improve

not only their performance and their full potential but

also their independent study skills.
