This is the research summary about the famous novel Frankenstein.

Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley, first published in 1823. The story

revolved around a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, his ctreature, and the fight between

them. As for more detail about the plot. In the exposition, the story introduce to us

Frankenstein, who had a passionate for science and desire to discover the secret of life

and, and eventually created a creature out of that. The creature was brought from body

parts, chemical, alchemy, and electricity. But when Victor abadon him and humankind

were terrified of him the creature ran away. Next in the rising action, it killed Victor little

brother, and a young innocent girl servant of the Frankenstein household got executed

becaused of it. Later on, Frankenstein was supposed to create for the creature a female of

its kind. However, he deicided to destroy it. As a result, the tension got even stronger for

Frankenstein and his creation. The climax is when the Creature killed Elizabeth on her

wedding night with Victor, which has been build up ever since Frankenstein killed.

Frankenstein have a lot of meaning behind its story. The major theme of Frankenstein

is responsibility. Frankenstein was responsible for creating a hideous monster and

abandoned it. His irresponsibility has led to series of unfortunate event that plagued him

and his love one. A possible minor theme of Frankenstein is revenge. Being abandoned

by his own creator, the monster hatred grew and grew. When it reach its tipping point, the

monster killed Victor love one to seek revenge against his creator. These themes
showcase the important of establishing a line between science and playing god. When

someone cross the line, they will lose everything and everyone the hold dear.

Victor Frankenstein is the main protagonist of the novel. Victor is a fame seeker who

wanted the world to admire him for his scientific discovery. He devoted his life to finish

his experiment and even scarified his health and his relationship. One of Victor biggest

mistake was not telling his secret to anyone else. This action eventually led to the death

of his friend and family. His character reflect the ambition of scientist during the Great

Enlightenment and how far they would go to achieve fame and glory.

The monster was the result of Victor Frankenstein horrific experiment. It stand at

eight-foot-tall and its ugly face scared people away. Though it has an ugly appearance,

the monster is not what he seem like. It was just rather confused and angry at being

abandoned by his own father. During his stay with a blind peasant family, they was not

afraid of him and even teach him how to read. However, as soon as he got found out, I

immediately got chased away by the villager. Suffering from his own existence, the

monster killed Victor’s friend in a rage. After calming down, he went see Victor and

begged him to create a mate for im. Victor broke the promise and the monster killed

every single one of victor’s friend and family. The creature was a complex antagonist. He

wasn’t borned an evil being but his surrounding and his father created the true monster

inside of it.

The first signs of the conflict appear in the story is during Victor early years. Victor

was obsessed of creating life and he sacrificed everything he. When he finally achieved
his dream, he was disgusted with his creation and abandoned it. His irresponsible gave

rise to greater conflict that was the murder of Brother William and false accusation

against Justine. Victor chose to stay silent about the entire event and blame the monster

for all his. The monster and Frankenstein met on a mountain and the monster share its

pain with Frankenstein. I asked for a mate but Victor broke the promise and the conflict

reached its boiling point. The monster killed Victor entire family and the doctor pledge

his life to destroy what he had created. His arrogance and pride had once again cost him

his love one. The conflict reached its final state when Victor Frankenstein travel around

the world to hunt down the monster. The conflict of the two end when victor died on the

ship and the monster soon killed itself after. Victor never acknowledge his mistake and

the madness he had created. He rather blamed it all on the monster than admitting that he

was responsible for all of these deaths. The monster, on the other hand, was confused and

angered for being neglected by the world and by his own father. However, he still

showed a lot of humanity and compassion when he lived with the blind family and when

he asked for a mate.

Overall, Frankenstein reflect the great line of life and death that many scientist tried

to cross during the age of enlightenment. With its heavy theme on creation, vengeance

and responsibility, it showed us just how far a human being would go to achieve fame

and money. This is without doubt one of the greatest example of the horror genre. It

spine chilling story alongside with its character had set the groundwork for many story in
the present day. It had inspired great horror story such as Jekyll and Hyde which also

addressed strong moral question on the line between science and madness. This is why

Frankenstein should be considered one of the best classic horror story.
