Formation Evaluation Report
Introduction:
The measurement and analysis of formation and fluid properties through examination of formation cuttings or through
the use of tools integrated into the bottomhole assembly while drilling, or conveyed on wireline or drillpipe after a
borehole has been drilled. Formation evaluation is performed to assess the quantity and producibility of fluids from a
reservoir. Formation evaluation guides wellsite decisions, such as placement of perforations and hydraulic fracture
stages, and reservoir development and production planning.

Procedure:
We open the IP program first we add the filed information (the las files) then we first do the environmental correction
then we measure the porosity and water saturation and permeability and then the lithology and clay volume and this all
will be reviewed below.

The plots:
1. Porosity:
As we can see in this figure the porosity measurement in a different type of tools like the density and
neutron log the most accurate tool is the density log.
a. Density-log: as we can see in this figure the formation is high porosity from 1966-1990 and
there is a clay in 2000ft and some clay between 2030-2050 and a high porosity in the other part
of the formation.
b. Neutron-log: the neuron log shows the same index as the density log but is shows a larger clay
layer in 1990-2030.
c. The other tow log tools show the same index so this means that the information is so accurate.

2. Water-saturation: as we can see in this figure there is many tool to calculate waster saturation such as arch
and other tools and equations as we see there is a hydrocarbon layer from 1966-1990 while the water
saturation is so low and there is salt water in 1990-2000 and 2030-2040 contain salt water too

3. Permeability: there is three equations to calculate the permeability the Schlemberger and Tamur and Moris
equations the layer from 1966-1980 is a shale layer which is low permeability and the high permeable zones are
the zones 1990-1995 this zone could be the highest permeable zone and it’s a sand stone zone and there is
another sand stone zone which is the zone from 2010-2020 that zones are the zones which could contain
hydrocarbons.
4. Clay volume: there is a lot of clay volume calculation tools the most accurate one is the gamma ray log there
is no clay in almost the formation but in the layer from 1980-2020 this layer is the only one contain clay.

5. Cutoffs: that figure show us the cutoffs of the porosity, water saturation and clay volume the porosity shows
us there is cutoffs in the layer 1990-2020 and the water saturation cutoffs is between 2035-2045 the clay
volume cutoffs is from 1985-2015.

6. Lithology: as we see in this figures this is an oil field with limestone layers and there is some dolomite as we
see in the second figure
Conclusion: formation evaluation is an important branch of well-logging we determine the physical
properties of the field the information below was for an oil field processed by IP software and it give us these
plots to determine the physical properties of that field the porosity, permeability, water saturation, clay volume
, lithology, and cutoffs we did all of that after correcting the information by Schlumberger environmental
correction.
