Part I: SMART GOAL FOR TEAM

Confirm That 90% of Team Members Have Completed New Inventory Management Software
Training by the End of Third Quarter

 Specific: 90% of staff needs to be trained on the new inventory management software as soon as
possible.
 Measurable: We have 100 employees; at least 90 need to complete the training.
 Achievable: Because the some of the team members have already received training, and the
training is web-based and easy to access, this goal is achievable.
 Relevant: This training will allow our team to merge onto our new platform, and once people are
comfortable with this new system, it will become more efficient and we can take up new
projects.
 Time-bound: We want to achieve this goal by the end of the third quarter.

Part II. POTENTIAL RISK and PLAN TO MITIGATE

1. RISK - Team members fail to complete the new inventory management software training due to
ad-hoc/on-demand work pressure.

MITIGATION - As mentioned above in the SMART goals, since some of the team members have
already received the training, the on-demand work pressure will be distributed among them
equally and the rest who have not received the training will be focusing primarily on completing
the training by the end of third quarter and will only do the necessary daily tasks.

2. RISK – Since the Inventory Management Software Training is an online based training, what if
the online link to access the training crashes.

MITIGATION – A proper and weekly maintenance of the server hosting the online training
should be done by the IT department. A support executive from the IT department should be
appointed solely for this online program to address any issues my team member faces. The
contact details of that support executive should be shared with all the members of my team
taking the online course.

Part III. 3 STRATEGIES

 Make the goal meaningful

(1) Conduct team meeting and show team members how completing this online software
training will help them to make a positive impact through their work and that it will be a new
addition to their CV which will help them to bag better offers in future.
(2) The sooner the team members completes the course and get comfortable with using the
software, the sooner we will be shifting them to the new project using the same tool.
(3) Non-cash reward will be given to top 3 performers.
 Allow for autonomy in attaining that goal

(1) The goal is made available online so the team members can be able to take the training at
their own pace.
(2) No weekly deadlines provided in the training, so if a team member is having a tough week or
not feeling well or on sick leave, there will be no pressure on the team member to achieve
weekly targets and continue with the training when they feel comfortable.
(3) Instead of 8 working hours, we are changing the shift timings to 7 working hours so that one
extra hour can be utilized for completing the training.

 Enable teammates to use and learn various skills in attaining that goal

(1) For attaining the goal, the office library is booked for 4 hours from 2pm to 6pm for team
members requiring additional help to complete the training.
(2) Mentor sessions will be conducted for team members by senior officials who are already
working with that new software so that it will enable my team members to achieve their
goal faster and have better understanding.
(3) Online study materials are posted in online portal of the organisation to help our team
members to refer and learn better.

 Communicate the goal to your team in a way that aligns with the vision

(1) By conducting team meeting in the first week before the beginning of the training to help
team members understand the importance and the positive impact of attaining the goal in
their career growth.
(2) By keeping an online open forum to discuss and explain why it is important for the team
members to take up the training and getting them onboard with the course will help to
achieve the vision of the organization.
(3) Provide real time examples and scenarios that how taking up the training will help them in
coming future which will increase their job satisfaction and also have a strong organization
citizenship behaviour.
