„ Wheel Hub Support T10149

- Loosen drive axle hex bolt 40-7, Fastening drive axle

bolt, loosening and tightening .

- Remove wheel.

- Remove nut - arrow - of connecting link from

suspension strut.

- Remove nuts - arrows - .

- Pull wheel bearing housing with ball joint out from control
arm.

- Pull drive axle outer joint out of wheel hub.

- Secure axle shaft to body with wire.

Note:

„ The drive axle must not hang down, otherwise the

inner joint will be damaged by overflexing.

- Fasten ball joint to control arm again.

- Fasten engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with

wheel hub support T10149 to wheel hub with a wheel
bolt.

- Separate threaded connection of wheel bearing

housing/suspension strut - arrow - .

- Insert spreader 3424 into slot of wheel bearing housing.

- Turn ratchet 90 and pull off from spreader 3424 .

- Press brake disc in direction of suspension strut by

hand.

Otherwise the shock absorber tube could catch in wheel

bearing housing hole.

- Pull wheel bearing housing downward and off from shock

absorber tube, and lower it far enough with
engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A until shock
absorber tube hangs freely.

- Secure wheel bearing housing to console/subframe with

bundling wire.

- Remove engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A from

under wheel bearing housing.

- Remove wiper arms

Windshield wiper system; Wiper arms, removing and
installing

- Remove plenum chamber cover.

- Remove bolts - arrows - for upper strut mounting and

remove suspension strut.

Installing

- Fasten engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with

wheel hub support T10149 to wheel hub with a wheel
bolt.

- Position suspension strut on wheel bearing housing and

secure suspension strut with multi-point socket-head bolt
and a new nut.

The tip of multi-point socket-head bolt must face in driving

direction.

- Remove spreader 3424 .

One of the two markings - arrows - of spring plate must

face in driving direction.

- Remove bundling wire from wheel bearing housing.

- Carefully lift wheel bearing housing with transmission

jack enough so that the suspension strut/strut tower bolts -
arrows - can be installed.

If necessary, use a ladder, e.g. the step ladder VAS 5085 ,

to screw in bolts.

- Fasten bolts for upper shock absorber mounting -

arrows - .

- Remove wheel hub support T10149 .

- Fasten threaded connection of wheel bearing

housing/suspension strut - arrow - .

- Remove nuts - arrows - .

- Insert drive axle into wheel hub.

- Set wheel bearing housing with ball joint into control arm.

- Fasten ball joint to control arm - arrows - .

Note:

„ Check boot for damage or twisting.

- Install plenum chamber cover.

- Install wiper arms

Further installation is in reverse order of removal.

- Install and fasten wheel, torque specification 44-2,

Coil spring removal

- Tension coil spring with spring compressor V.A.G

1752/1 until upper axial groove ball bearing is free.

Caution!

First pre-load the spring until the upper spring plate is

no longer under load.

- Make sure coil spring is properly seated in spring holder

V.A.G 1752/4 - arrow - .

- Remove hex nut from piston rod.

- Remove individual components of suspension strut and

coil spring using spring compressor V.A.G 1752/1 .

Installing coil spring

- Install coil spring onto lower spring support using spring

compressor V.A.G 1752/1 .

The end of coil spring must lie against stop - arrow - .

- Tighten new hex nut on piston rod.

- Release tension on spring compressor V.A.G 1752/1

and remove from coil spring.

- Install strut 40-6, Installing .
