Basic Rules for the Championship

Scoring

A match is played best of 3 games. For each game, the first player to reach 21 points wins that game, however
a game must be won by at least a two point margin.

A point is scored after each ball is put into play (not just when the server wins the point as in volleyball).

The edges of the table are part of the legal table surface, but not the sides.

Flow of the match

Each player serves five points in a row and then switch server. However, if a score of 20-20(deuce) is reached
in any game, then each server serves only one point and then the server is switched. After each game, the
players switch side of the table.

Legal serve

The ball must rest on an open hand palm. Then it must be tossed up at least 6 inches and struck so the ball
first bounces on the server's side and then the opponent's side.

If the serve is legal except that it touches the net, it is called a let serve. Let serves are not scored and are re-
served.

Any numbers of Let Serves are allowed and there is no penalty for successive let serves.

Referee

A referee will be appointed for each game whose decision shall be final.
If referee is unsure of any score or point than the serve is not counted and would need to be re-served.

Other Points

Touching the bat on the table will not attract any penalty and the game will continue as it is.

In case of unavailability of a participant, effort will be made to reschedule the match. However due to limited
slots if rescheduling is not possible then the participant who is not available will be considered as forfeiting the
match and the win shall be awarded to his opponent, thus making the opponent advance to the next stage.

Organizing committee will have the final say on match schedules.

Qualifiers shall be 1 set of 10 points and first player to reach 11 points wins the game.
