    Basketball is a team sport where two teams, usually consisting of
    players on each team, play against each other on a rectangular court. The
    objective is to get the ball through a hoop mounted high on a backboard on the
    opponent's side of the court, while preventing the opponent from shooting it into
    your team's hoop.

    B. HISTORY
    The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James
    Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young
    athletes during cold months. ... The objective of the game was to throw
    the basketball into the fruit baskets nailed to the lower railing of the gym
    balcony.
