L ashes are lifted from the base of the lash line, providing a
long-lasting treatment result. The chemical effect of the
treatment naturally enhances the thickness of the lashes. Adding
eyelash tint will make the newly lifted lashes even more visible,
creating a more dramatic look.

J Curl
This curl is best suited for
clients who wish to achieve
a more dramatic look as the
curl is lifted straight from the
root of the lash.
C Curl
C curl creates a more natural
looking lift as the curl comes
out always from the lash first,
then curls up.

U nderstanding how the lifting process occurs within the hair structure
is essential to a technician’s knowledge of the steps within the Lash
Perfect Lash Lift treatment.
Hair is composed of a strong structural protein called keratin. This is the
same kind of protein that makes up the nails and the outer layer of skin.
Virgin hair is defined as hair that has had no chemical treatment applied
to change its structure i.e. colouring and perming products.
Products such as conditioning masks, wash in/wash out colour, mousse
or serums are not considered to chemically change the hair structure and
therefore after their use, the product can be washed off and the hair would
remain virgin hair.
Medulla
Cortex
Cuticle
The application of Lifting Cream will separate the disulphide bonds within the hair structure through the active ingredient
Ammonium Thioglycolate. This ingredient has 2 functions:
• Ammonium - Has the effect of plumping the outer cuticle layer on the hair allowing the thioglycolate to enter the
structure of the hair.
• Thioglycolate - Enters the cortex where the disulphide bonds are present. The chemical begins the process of separating the
bonds between the keratin clusters. This makes the hair easier to mould into a new shape. This shape is determined by the
Curling Wand that is chosen for the Lash Lift treatment.
The Lifting Cream should be left on the lashes for enough time to separate the bonds without causing damage to the hair.
To prevent damage to the natural hair, hair strength should be assessed prior to the treatment and application time should be
adapted accordingly.
While the lash hair is still in its new shape (is bound around and bonded to the Curling Wand), the Setting Cream is applied.
The hydrogen peroxide within the Setting Cream adds oxygen and ‘oxides’ the lash hair. This process reforms and realigns the
disulphide bonds into their new position and sets the hair into its new shape.
Failure to leave the hydrogen peroxide on the hair long enough will result in the lift not keeping its shape. The disulphide bonds
will not have re-formed and the lash hair will lose its lift quickly.
If a test is performed, the creams should only stay on the skin for up to 30 minutes. To complete a patch test, apply a small
amount of each product behind the ear or to the inner elbow.
Contra-indications
It is important to carry out a full consultation and visually assess the eye area to identify any conditions that may be present;
some of the conditions can prevent or restrict the Lash Lift treatment from taking place. Please refer to your Essential Pre-Course
Information Booklet which will explain many conditions that you should be aware of.
For the Lash Lift treatment, it is important take the necessary precautions:
• Positive reactions to patch tests – This can be identified by swelling, redness, and skin irritation. You will not be able to carry
out the service for anyone who has had a reaction to the products.
• Always request the client to remove contact lenses before treatment to prevent irritation.
• Other eye treatments should not be performed for at least 24 hours after the treatment except lash tinting which is carried
out as part of a fuller Lash Lift service (if requested by the client).
• Avoid product contact with the skin.
• If any irritation occurs, remove all products and rinse well with cool water.
Contra-actions
Occasionally a client may experience adverse reactions to the treatment, these are listed below:
• On the rare occasion, some clients’ lashes may not curl or lift. This can be caused by the resistance of the client’s lashes or
the client being on medication. If their lashes are thick and naturally straight it may take an extra 2 - 3 minutes per cream to
allow them to curl.
• Over processing can damage the lashes. Ensure processing timings are adhered to and avoid applying the Lifting and Setting
Creams to the tips of the lashes.
• Overlifting of lashes can occur when the Curling Wand selected is too small.
• Underlifting of lashes can occur if the wand selected is too large. A repeat treatment with a smaller rod can be completed to
meet the client’s expectations, however to avoid over processing always reduce processing time by a few minutes for each
stage of the treatment.
• Lash breakage could occasionally occur due to the condition of the natural lashes or over processing by leaving the Lifting or
Setting Creams on for longer than recommended.
• Redness to the eyelid and eye may occur following product touching the skin or entering the eye. An eyebath should be
used with sterile water to flush out any product from the eye. Refer to the Essential Pre-Course Information booklet for
instructions on how to carry this out.
A therapist should never apply eye drops for clients or ‘prescribe’ use. Such advice should only come from a qualified
medical professional.
• The lifting process and available options should be fully explained to the client. This includes the curl and lift your client
would like to achieve from the treatment and will support your decision in the Curling Wand needing to be used.
• The tinting process and options should be explained and discussed with the client to determine whether tinting is needed -
the preferred colour should be chosen if so.
• Assess your client’s lash condition including length,
thickness and natural curl. From this assessment, the
development time for the relevant products can be
determined.
• Medical history of the client should be discussed ensuring
no contra-indications are present. It is important for
the client to advise and to take note of any precautions
that may need to be considered when carrying out the
treatment.
• A Record Card should be accurately completed with the
client prior to commencing the treatment and signed
and dated by both the client and the therapist for future
reference.
• Ensure all relevant details are included on the form such
as the type of curl, size of wand and the colour of tint
chosen.
• Results of any patch tests must be documented on the
Record Card.

2. Cleanse the client’s eyes thoroughly using the Lift Off Foaming Cleanser and the
Cleansing Cloth and ensure all makeup is removed.
3. Place the gel patches under the eyes to secure down lower lashes.
4. Use a disposable mascara wand to comb through the lashes ensuring they are straight.
5. Use a sponge applicator and a micro brush to apply Pre Treatment to all lashes.
6. Apply a thin layer of Fixing Adhesive to the back of the Curling Wand and adhere to the
eyelid. Ensure it is positioned close to the lash line and that the Curling Wand
is positioned accurately to achieve the desired curl.
7. Apply Fixing Adhesive on top of the Curling Wand on the first eye.
8. Use the Application Wand and gently tease the lashes up to adhere to the Curling Wand.
You may need to apply more adhesive at this stage to ensure all the lashes are secured
onto the Curling Wand.
9. Use the tip of the Application Wand to ensure the lashes are straight and not crossing
over each other.
11. Use a micro brush to gently apply the Hi Brow Growth & Conditioning Serum to the very
tips of the lashes to protect them from the Lifting and Setting Creams.
12. Decant one sachet of the Lifting Cream into the Open Cup (Glue) Ring.
10
14. Set the Digital Timer and leave the product for desired time (ensuring you have selected
the appropriate development time).
15. Using a damp cleansing cloth and a dry cotton bud remove all excess product thoroughly.
Start from the first eye that you applied Lifting Cream to.
16. Decant the Setting Cream into the Open Cup (Glue) Ring.
17. Apply Setting Cream with a micro brush to both eyes ensuring the product is applied
to the curl/bend of the lashes and not to the tips.
18. Set the Digital Timer and leave the product for desired time.
19. Using a dry cotton bud remove the excess product. Remove excess product from the
first eye that you applied Setting Cream to first.
20. Re-position gel patches so the lower lashes are now on top of the gel patches.
21. Mix desired tint colour by placing 1cm of lash tint and 3 drops of the Professional Tint
Developer into the mixing dish and mix with an orange wood stick.
22. Apply the tint with a micro brush to both eyes ensuring the product is applied to the
upper (over the Curling Wand) and lower lashes, including the tips.
23. Set the Digital Timer and leave the product for desired time (ensuring you have selected
the appropriate development time).
24. Use a dry cotton bud to remove excess tint followed by a damp cotton pad to remove
the remaining tint from the lower and upper lashes.
25. As you wipe over the upper lashes they will start to release from the Curling Wand.
26. Once all lashes are removed from the Curling Wand on both eyes use the damp cotton
wool to tease under the Curling Wand; this will gently remove away from the eyelid.
27. Once both Curling Wands are removed, use damp cotton wool to wipe over the eyes
to ensure all product and tint is removed.
29. Apply a generous coating of the Hi Brow Growth & Conditioning Serum to the lashes
with a disposable mascara brush.
30. Apply a thin coat of the Lash Perfect Finishing Glaze with a disposable mascara brush.
31. Sit the client up and show them their lashes in the mirror.

It is important not to have the Lash Lift too frequently (before 6 weeks) as
this can cause the lashes to become over processed and weak. Advise your
client appropriately, according to their lash condition and the speed their
natural lashes grow.
Aftercare Advice
It is important to give your clients aftercare advice to ensure they achieve
the optimum results following the treatment (aftercare is provided on the
Lash Lift Salon Leaflet).
For the first 24 hours after the treatment, lashes should be treated with care.
• If any irritation occurs the client should return to the salon or seek
medical advice.
• Advise the client to avoid steam baths and saunas.
• Suggest the use of Growth & Conditioning Serum and Finishing Glaze
to help moisturise and set the lashes into place.
After 24 hours the client can use normal make up and treat lashes as they
normally would.

Q My client has had a lash tint within the last 24 hours, can I still complete the Lash Lift treatment on them?
A If your client has had a lash tint within 24 hours prior to the treatment, you can still complete the Lash Lift.
Due to the previous tint, the lashes may change slightly in colour and therefore require a second tint following the
treatment.
Q Lashes haven’t lifted immediately after the Lash Lift treatment – why is this?
A If the lashes are not pulled up tight enough onto the lash curling wand, this can result in the lashes setting in their
old straighter position, instead of their new uplifted position. Another reason for the Lash Lift not showing could be
due to an incorrect wand size selection. The lift result will be less dramatic if the Curling Wand size selected is too
large for the natural lashes – next time, try choosing a smaller size curling wand.
Q My client has come back within 24 hours because her lashes have dropped – why has this happened?
A When a Lash Lift works initially but drops down within 24 hours, it’s usually a sign that the Lifting Cream hasn’t
been removed correctly during the treatment. The Lifting Cream needs to be removed thoroughly otherwise it
can create a barrier between the bonds in the hair structure and the Setting Cream. We advise using
a damp sponge applicator to remove the Lifting Cream – you should redo this step a few times prior to moving
onto applying the Setting Cream.
14
1. Which size Curling Wand will create the tightest curl on short lashes?
3. How long should the Lifting Cream be left on lashes that are ultra-fine?
4. How long should the Setting Cream be left on the lashes that are thick?
5. How long should you recommend to your client that the treatment will last?
6. What Curling Wand size and curl would you use to create the most lifted look on long lashes?
7. What product should be used at the end of the treatment to condition the lashes?
9. Name two pieces of aftercare advice which should be followed in the 24 hours after the
treatment.
15
11. Name the 3 layers of the hair from centre to outer layer.
13. How long should tint be left on the lashes for and why?
14. What is the name of the ingredient in the Lifting Cream that breaks down the structure of the
lash?
