II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is an elementary level English course that aims at developing students listening,
speaking, reading, writing, and language communication skills. Attention will be given to
vocabulary learning strategies and grammar.

III. COURSE OBJECTIVES

As outcome of this course, students will:

1. Become ready through listening, speaking, reading, writing, and language


communication skills.
2. Feel comfortable expressing ideas, feelings, and opinions in English.
3. Develop a sense of success, security, and achievement as they learn to improve
English language skills.
4. Use English in a variety of real-life situations.

III. FIRST GRADE SKILLS TO BE ASSESSED

1. Listening And Speaking:


a. Use language to ask and answer questions and interact with peers.
b. Listen and participate in rhymes, songs, chants, etc.
c. Respond to conversations using grade appropriate vocabulary.
d. Ask and answer yes or no questions.
e. Ask and answer the 5 W’s.
2. Reading
a. Determine main idea or themes of a text.
b. Summarize key supporting details and ideas of a text.
c. Describe characters, setting, and major events in a text using key details.
d. Recognize common types of texts, identify the front cover, back cover, and
title page of a book, and story organization (beginning, middle, and end).
e. Identify the story or text point of view.
f. Use illustrations (picture cues) to identify story details.

g. Categorize similarities and differences between characters and details within
a text.
h. Compare and contrast different texts.
i. Read nursery rhymes, folk tales, and other texts.
j. Recognize phonemes, syllables and spoken words.

Test and Evaluation Reposition or Replacement:


               The student is entitled to be granted the opportunity to retake, make
examinations or special work when there is a substantial reason for his or her absences.
You will be offered the opportunity to retake the evaluation or replace student’s
assignment with another if the parent or guardian contacts the teacher or school within
ten ( 10) consecutive working days or within five (5) days after return to school. If the
student, parent or guardian fails to comply with these requirements the student will
receive zero (0) score in its review, project or assignment as stipulated in the Internal
Regulations of the Academy.
