Activity - Backyard Detectives

Brief: Children work together in teams to investigate


the habitats in the school environment and make a
tally of how many different kinds of insects are in their
allocated area of the school environment.

Students will make a tally of how many animals are in


their allocated environments.

Students will think critically about their findings in this


investigation - for example,
- Why does this habitat have lots of snails but that
habitat doesn’t?
- What kinds of insects can we find in the pond area

conduct an investigation to
compare different types of animal
habitats, and the type and number
of animals found
