I. PROBLEM SOLVING
Evaluate the following:

PROBLEM 1:

There is a 10-mile pathway towards the ocean, the perpendicular to the beach. Two runners agree to race on this path.
The first runner runs the path with a perfect accuracy. The second runner misses the perpendicular path by 1° to the right.

a) How far are apart are the endpoints of the runner’s path?
b) How much more did the second runner run than the first runner, due to the inaccuracy of the path?

PROBLEM 2:

To measure the width of a river. Two trees stand opposite one another, at points A and B, on opposite banks of a river.
Distance AC along one bank is perpendicular to BA, and is measured to be 100 feet. Angle ACB is measured to be 79°.
How far apart are the trees; that is the width “w” of the river?
PROBLEM 3:

Given the two sides of a Right Triangle. Solve the right triangle ABC given that side c=25cm, and side b=24cm.

a) What is the length of the side a?

b) What is the value of the Angle A?
c) What is the value of Angle B?
