NARRATION
Chess was invented in India. In those days, chess was played with dice. Throw of the dice was
used to determine which piece to move. The original name of that game was name Chaturanga.
The goal of chess is to corner the King that's what we called checkmate. The term checkmate
comes from the arab term 'shah mat’. Shah means the king and mat means loss. So shah mat
means the king loses. Playing this game has a process to win the game such as control the center.
Build the officials and last to corner the king therefore the game was end. This game is a type of
board game that you need to analyze and use some strategic thinking. This game is also helping
us to exercise our brains in doing some analysis situation.

DESCRIPTION

Chess has many parts like the board and the chess pieces. The board is usually made out of
wood. It has alternating colors that are black/green and white which forms a checkered pattern.
Chess can only be played by two players and there are 32 chess pieces, 16 for each player. The
chess pieces have two colors which are black and white. There are 6 different types of chess
pieces which has different moves. First piece is the pawns which are the smallest; it has 8 pieces
for each player. The pawns can move forward. Next is the rooks which looks like a castle, it has
2 pieces per player. It can move horizontal or vertical. Another one is the knights which looks
like a horse and has 2 pieces for each player. It can move two and a half steps in any directions.
Next is the bishop it has 2 pieces per player. It can move diagonally. Lastly a team needs a king
and a queen which is the two tallest and the most important pieces in chess. The king has a cross
on the top part. It can only move one step in any direction unlike the queen which can move
anywhere in the board.

DEFINITION

Chess is a strategy board game played by two players who maneuver sixteen pieces each. On a
checkered board with 64 squares arranged in 8x8 grids. According to its rules governing
movement of the six kinds of pieces (pawn, rook, knight, bishop, queen, king) the object being to
bring the opponent’s king into checkmate. The game is played by millions of people worldwide.
It is believed to be derived from the game chaturanga in 7th century. Chess reached Europe by
the 9th century, due to Umayyad conquest of hispania. The pieces are assumed their current
powers in Spain in the late 15th century, the modern rules were standardized in the 19th century.

CAUSE AND EFFECT

People often thought that chess is a cerebral game for intellectual, but according to the new
research it shown that people don’t need to be genius to start playing chess. In fact, not all
players start out as an intelligent as they are today. Playing chess can actually make your mind
healthy; playing it regularly can actually make an individual smarter! But it was practice of
playing chess helps every players to increase their IQ’s, among other things. There are several
different types of mental benefits that come from playing chess, playing chess can make your IQ
increase because chess is using your mental ability to think what should be your move to defeat
you opponent, second it improves your skills in solving a problem, chess is a board game that is
about solving series of increasingly complicated moves, problems, and puzzles that your
opponent do, third chess makes your brain healthy, because chess is a mental game it exercise
your thinking ability as you think a move, also chess helps to improve your focus and maintain
your concentration and lastly it improves your memory.

COMPARISON AND CONTRAST

Chess and Go have both similarities and differences. First, let’s talk about their differences.
Chess is a game where the goal of the person is to catch the object of the king. In a game of
chess, it must have a specific goal and moving pieces. Go is a game where each player seeks to
surround completely more territory on the board than their opponent. In Go, players build up
their positions with each move. Go is always dynamic and has also a point scoring system. The
similarities of the Chess and Go are the movements and strategy games. Chess and Go are easy
to play and easy to learn. Both need a systematic reasoning, the ability to consider several moves
and logical mind. Both games are highly effective dynamics.

Persuasion

Chess is a board game that gives benefit to those people who plays the game. A medical study
showed that playing chess can decrease the risks of having dementia and it helps to prevent
Alzheimer’s. It also reduces the risks of having anxiety, depression and improves the problem-
solving skills and spatial skills. Learning how to play this at a very young age is a good thing
because it raises the intelligence of the child. It also exercise both side of the brain that makes the
kids more creative and they learn to concentrate, plan and foresight. Teach your children how to
play the chess and they make your children smarter.
