BASIC DATA MODELS

1. For the respective random variables in each of these three data sets, compute the
distributions of absolute frequency, cumulative absolute frequency, relative
frequency and the cumulative relative frequency and the skewness and the kurtosis.
 The consumption of milk at Shanti’s house varies from day to day, due to her
husband’s work-related travel and guests visiting every now and then. Hence,
she purchases milk in packets on a daily basis and notes the number of packets
purchased, for future analyses. Her recording for the year 2018 is in the
worksheet “Shanti”.
 Sundar, the quality inspection manager in a textile mill has made a system to
study the defects occuring in a particular SKU of garment. Every 15 minutes, this
system examines a 10 metre long (* 3 feet wide) piece of cloth that is coming out
of the production line and counts the number of white spots present. Over a
period of 30 days, Sundar has gathered 2880 recordings with the help of two
student interns at the mill. The recordings are in the worksheet “Sundar”.
 The hospital attached to KL University conducted a survey to understand the
distribution of the weights in their campus. 3218 students were randomly
sampled from the student population and genders as well as their weights (in
kgs) were recorded. See the Worksheet “KLU”.
2. Health Insurance is a billion-dollar industry in the US. Knowledge Process
Outsourcing (KPO) companies in third world countries, process health insurance
claims filed by hospitals and patients in the US, on behalf of US-based insurance
companies. The Worksheet titled “HICP-DATA” provides data on errors recorded in
the health insurance claims process (HICP) in 2018 by a particular KPO in India.
Column C lists the type of error, while Column D lists the code of the Team Lead,
whose team handled the transaction in which the error was detected. Further, the
next Worksheet titled HICP-DESCRIPTIONS provides brief descriptions of the
errors. Perform Pareto Analysis on this data and generate appropriate
recommendations.
