Short Courses

Participants are required to be at least 16 years of age unless noted otherwise.
Exemption prices may apply if you hold other current Marine qualifications. If required, the task
book fee is $25.00.

Certificate of Safety Training (CoST)
Five Day Course
In order to enrol, participants must provide a statement of medical fitness. CoST meets the
minimum requirements to work onboard a ship.

12 Sep, 10 Oct, 14 Nov, 5 Dec.

One Day Course
In order to enrol, participants must provide an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training
(COST) and a statement of medical fitness. CoST meets the minimum requirements to work

Certificate of Safety Training (CoST) – Revalidation
Four Day Course
The CoST Revalidation course is designed for Seafarers who do not hold the qualifying sea
service and therefore need to undertake the full short courses in order to demonstrate continued
competence.

First Aid
One Day Course
First Aid is the initial care of the sick or injured, until more advanced care can be provided. The
aims of First Aid are to preserve life, protect the unconscious, prevent the condition from
worsening, and promote recovery, to ensure a safe environment and to give reassurance to the
sick or injured.

Master of Yachts Limited (Master <24m crossover in partnership with IYT World)
One Day Short Course
The IYT Master of Yachts Limited 200 ton course has become the most globally accepted
course for the operation of commercial yachts up to 200 Tons.
2016 course dates: 19 Mar, 18 Jun, 17 Sept, 10 Dec.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $1,300.00.
Master of Yachts Inshore <80GT or Master of Yachts Coastal/Mate 200 GT
One Day Short Course
The IYT Master of Yachts Courses has become the most globally accepted courses for the
operation of commercial yachts up to 200 Tons. Recognition by 25 Governments has made the
IYT MOY 200 Ton certification the most sought after in the world. The International Marine
College is a partner school, offering the crossover from the Australian Certificates of
Competency.
2016 course dates: 19 Mar, 18 Jun, 17 Sept, 10 Dec.

Security Awareness Training
Online
Security Awareness Training (SAT) course is designed for seafarers employed or engaged in
any capacity on board a ship which is required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS Code.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $295.00.

Certificate of Proficiency as Ship Security Officer
Three Day Course
Under the terms of the ISPS Code, shipping companies are required to designate a Ship
Security Officer. This course is designed to provide instructions and proficiency in compliance
with the ISPS Code for Ship Security Officers.

Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) – previously MROCP
Two Day Course
A Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) is for operating both VHF radios
(short range radios) and Medium Frequency/High Frequency (MF/HF) Radios (which are
designed for long range transmission).
2016 course dates: 3 Mar, 21 Apr, 23 Jun, 28 Jul, 22 Sep, 13 Oct, 8 Dec. Thursday Island: 18
Feb.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $290.00.
Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) – previous MROVCP
Two Day Course
Get the skills to obtain a Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP). This course
was formerly known as the MROVCP.

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Ten Day Course
In order to enrol in this course, participants must hold a Marine Radio Operators Certificate of
Proficiency.
2016 course dates: 15 February, 9 May, 4 Jul, 5 Sep, 14 Nov.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this qualification is $2,518.00.
General Operator’s Certificate Revalidation (GMDSS)
Three Day Course
In order to enrol in this course, participants must have previously held a GMDSS General
Operators Certificate.
2016 course dates: 8 Mar, 26 Apr, 14 Jun, 23 Aug, 25 Oct.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $965.00.
Elements of Shipboard Safety (ESS)
Two Day Course
Learn survival techniques and safe working procedures for emergency situations onboard a
vessel.
2016 course dates: 29 Feb, 18 Apr, 20 Jun, 25 Jul, 19 Sep, 10 Oct, 5 Dec. Thursday Island: 15
Feb.

Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS)
Five Day Course
Designed for candidates for certification as officers in charge of a navigational watch on an
Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS)compliant vessel and for experienced
nautical officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities on an ECDIScompliant
vessel.
2016 course dates: 18 Jan, 22 Feb, 4 Apr, 23 May, 27 Jun, 1 Aug, 19 Sept, 24 Oct, 5 Dec.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $2,955.00.
Exemption 38
Two Day Course
Exemption 38 is for limited maritime operations that undertake low complexity duties.

Advanced Fire Training
Five Day Course
Manage firefighting and fire prevention activities on board a vessel.
2016 course dates: 29 Feb, 12 Apr, 24 May.
Fees: The approximate cost to complete this course is $1,700.00.
Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft
Five Day Course
This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform
survival craft operations as required during shipboard emergency response situations.

Crisis Management
Two Day Course
This course covers minimum standard of competence for: masters, chief mates, chief
engineers, second engineer officers and any other person assigned immediate responsibility for
embarking and disembarking passengers, for loading, discharging or security cargo, or for
closing hull openings and any other personal having responsibility for the safety of passengers
in emergency situations.

Crowd Management
One Day Course
Crowd Management Training and Safety Training for personnel providing direct service to
passengers in passenger spaces provides participants with the skills to be able to control a
crowd in an emergency situation on board, locate essential safety and emergency equipment on
board, communicate effectively with passengers during an emergency, demonstrate the use of
personal lifesaving appliances and comply with the ship’s safety and emergency procedures.

Tug and Barge Master General Operators Course
Five Day Course
This course will help owners and operators engaged in towage work, or harbour masters,
contractors and others when risk assessing towage operations; and enable individuals to
demonstrate that they are suitably competent to carry out such work.
