ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF MONEY
Points to Remember:
1) While adding and subtracting money, take care to place the points one
below the other and then add or subtract as ordinary numbers
2) Remember to put the point in the same place (before two digits from the
right) in the answer.

Solution:
Amount of money received by the bank on one particular day=₹5,928
Amount of money given out by bank=₹5,021
Amount of money received by bank than given out=₹5,928-₹5,021
₹5,928 =₹907
-₹5,021

b) Mr. Khan has ₹9,231 in the bank. He wants to leave only ₹2,500 there and take
out the rest .How much money can he take out?
Solution:
Amount of money with Mr. Khan in the bank=₹9,231
Amount of money Mr. Khan wants to leave in the bank=₹2,500
Amount of money Mr. Khan can take out=₹9,231-₹2,500
₹9,231 =₹6,731
-₹2,500
₹6,731
c) The Mehta’s bought a new fridge and gave in their old fridge in exchange .Their
old fridge was valued at ₹2,300.They had to pay the dealer ₹6,756.What was the
cost of their new fridge?
Solution:
Amount of money given for the old fridge =₹2,300
Amount of money paid to the dealer for the new fridge=₹6,756
Cost of the new fridge =₹6,756+₹2,300
₹6,756 =₹9,056
+₹2,300
₹9,056
d) The Mehta’s went on a holiday to Coimbatore. On the first day they spent
₹1,245.Over the next two days they spent ₹2,457and on the last day they spent
₹980.How much did they spend in all?
Solution:
Amount of money spent on the first day of the holiday =₹1,245
Amount of money spent in next two days =₹2,457
Amount of money spent on the last day =₹980
Total amount spent in all =₹1,245+₹2,457+₹980
₹1,245 =₹4,682
+ ₹2,457
