 Wheel balancing
The wheel balancing is the process of making the weight of the entire or
combined tire and wheel assembly in such a way that the tire spins smoothly at high speeds. basically in
wheel balancing the weights are put on a balancer which centers the wheel and spin it to determine
where the wheel should go.

 Equipment used for wheel balancing?

 wheel balancers

The wheel balancers are typically used for this purpose of balancing. typically the balancing machnes
contains the clamp which comes in range of variety depending on the type of tire to be used . and an
elentronic display called balancing wheel indicator. an vibration detector.
How
wheel balancing is done?
First of all the weights on the wheels and its gas filled in it is removed. And ensured that no gas or
weight is present in it. Nowadays we rely on the wheel balancing machines for our wheel balancing. first
of all we attach our wheel with the clamps . The latest machines tells us initially that where is the centre
of the tire and where is its ideal position for checking. After that we supply power to our tire. And the
shaft rotates our tire. Often the machines consist of a outside hooded on which sensitive gauges are
placed. After spinning the machine tells us that how much weight is required on the rim for its
balancing. And based on the type of tire whether it is a disc tire or a alloy tire the appropriate masses
are attached.

inside and outside balancing

The machine tells us that different masses must be attached on inside or outside of the tire. So the
inside and outside balancing of wheels is done differently.
Problems arises due to wheel balancing?
 Non uniform tire wear
 Reducing the fuel economy
 Steering problems

Benefits of wheel balancing

 Increase the life span of tires

 increase the fuel efficiency

 Smoother drive at high speeds

 Improve the safety

Wheel misalignment
The wheel misalighnment is simply defined when due to some causes the
wheel of the car refuses to go in a straight line when the steering is fixed in the straight direction.

Equipments used for misalignment?

 Wheel alignment machines
 CNC machine tools
 Front end alignment machines

The misalignment equipment is used for diagnosing the camber, caster and toe angles and the
misalignment in them.

Camber angles

Camber angle is the angle made by the wheels of the vehicle specifically it is the angle between the
vertical axis of the wheels used for steering and vertical axis of the vehicle from the front view.

Caster angle
This angle is the angular displacement of steering axis from vehicled axis of a steered wheel in a car.

Toe angle

The toe angle is the direction the wheels are pointed in reference to the vehicle centerline viewed from
above.toe angle is the most crucial angle.

How alignment is done

The car is simply put on the turn plates and the car is lifted up and based on the readings of the sensors.
The car is then slowly rolled on the lift forward. the rolling and the turning moments are carefully
observed by the alignments machines .The next step is done based on the results of calculations.

Benefits of alignment
 reduce tire wear
 increase fuel efficiency
 improve handling
