Transportation Management really plays a major role in product movement  and product
storage which were the two main logistical services in transportation. Product movement is the
transportation of goods or cargo to its specified destination, of course transportation
management should be part of it. It does not only transport goods that are finished but also
materials  and work-in-process goods. When it comes to goods that are damaged or goods for
refurbishment transportation management performs its role through reverse logistics. Goods
that are damaged and lost constitute significant cost.  Advancement in information technology
was one of the factors why transportation management is an advantage to product movement
because it provides the status of the goods or cargo and at the same time the exact location of
its destination. The shipper, receiver and agent were able to check and were updated on where
and what is the status of their shipment. On the other hand, product storage was also part of
transportation management, the transportation vehicle can be temporary storage of goods or
cargo that were scheduled to be shipped a few days but of course additional fee may vary
depending on the time it has to be stored in the vehicle.

2. Transportation management has six participants which are the shipper, receiver, carrier and
agent, government, internet and the public.

 First was the shipper or also known as consignor and the receiver or the consignee they have
the common interest which is completing the sales or purchased transactions. For example, I
ordered online a cellphone so meaning I am the receiver and the one where I have ordered is
the shipper or consignor our goal is for me to receive the cellphone on time and in good
condition to complete the transaction.

 The carrier and agent was also part of transportation management. The carrier is the one who
performs transportation services and the brokers and freight forwarders are the transport
agents that facilitate carrier and customer matching. As the above mentioned example the
agent and carriers are the one who will perform the transport of the cellphone from the shipper
or consignor to the receiver (to me).

 The government was also part of the transportation management. It desires a stable and
efficient transportation environment to support economic growth. Government’s function was
to restrict markets they could service and approving prices they could charge. As the above
mentioned example, the government was the one who regulate on the VAT of the purchased
item or the item to be shipped. They are also the one who restricts or decides on what items or
how much it should be.

 The public was also a participant in transportation management, the public was the one who
balances the transportation management based on their demand.

 Lastly the internet, it is really essential in transportation management because using this the
shipper and the receiver can easily monitor their shipment. As the above mentioned example
the shipper can easily be updated on the status of the shipment as where the cellphone is and
what is the condition of it, same benefit on the receiver, he/she can check on the status of the
shipment as when the shipment will arrive.
