Formathon 2020 Contest Rules

1. Duration of the Formathon Program 
 
The “​Formathon​” will be held during the following dates and times: 
 
● Day 1:​ Thursday May 28th | 5:30pm-7pm  
● Day 2:​ Saturday May 30th | 9am-3pm (Lunch break from 
12pm-1pm) 
● Day 3: ​Wednesday June 3rd | 5:30pm-7pm  
● Day 4: S ​ aturday June 6th | 9am-3pm (Lunch break from 
12pm-1pm) 
● Day 5: W​ ednesday June 10th | 5:30pm-7pm  
● Day 6: S ​ aturday June 13th | 9am-3pm (Lunch break from 
12pm-1pm) 
● Day 7: ​Wednesday June 17th | 5pm-7pm  
 
 
2. Formathon Program Participation  
 
During the Formathon, Fintech Cadence is committed to providing the 
following services to the Participants: 
 
● Provide all sessions online via zoom or an alternative online 
platform. 
● Conduct design thinking workshop sessions. 
● Support with team formation. 
● Provide 3 Industry Nights (June 3rd, June 10th and June 13th). 
● 1 animator per track for point of contact.  
● 2 curriculum facilitators. 
● Google Drive Formathon Folder with all applicable presentations 
uploaded & provided in both french and english. 
● Slack channels for easier communication and direct access to 
potential team members and FC staff. 
● Offer a different set of prizes through our partners and sponsors. 
 
 
3. Obligations of the participants during the Formathon (May 
28th-June 17th) 
 
I understand the Formathon is carried out through 2 tracks: 
 
Startup Track 
● Your goal is to come up with a solution for your selected 
challenge.

 ● On June 17th, you will present your solution at the finals in front of 
the applicable judges. 
● You will attempt to put together a wireframe of what your 
solution will look like through the tools and software that Fintech 
Cadence will recommend. 
 
Research Track 
 
● Your goal is to come up with research analysis for the challenges. 
● On June 17th, you will present your solution at the finals in front of 
the applicable judges. 
● You will attempt to put together a research presentation of what 
your solution will look like through the tools and software that 
Fintech Cadence will provide. 
● If you wish to continue working on your research after the 
Formathon - this will be up to the mandator to decide whether 
they will be able to support you. 
 
Additionally, participants understand and/or agree to: 
 
● Participate actively in all workshops. 
● Be present (or at least 1 person per team) on all Formathon dates 
(unless advanced notice to the Fintech Cadence team is 
provided). 
● Treat all other participants, animators, facilitators, experts and 
Fintech Cadence employees with respect. 
● Main sessions will all be carried out in english but materials will 
be provided in french on the google drive. 
● All sessions will be online. 
 
4. Startup Track Winners - Formathon Select 
As a means to continue to provide support to a winning startup team 
after the Formathon, the winning team(s) will enter our Formathon 
Select Program for 9 additional weeks. This solely consists of weekly 
calls of 30 minutes as a check-in and see if Fintech Cadence can 
support on any front. This will start the week after the Finale until the 
week of August 17th. Scheduling of calls will be made upon everyone’s 
availability.

5. Prizes - Finales on June 17th 
 
5.1 Startup Track:  
● Innovate Financial Health Prize:  
1 team Key guided mentorship by industry experts and the 
IFH team for the success of your new startup.  
● Gowling WLG: 
1 team will be awarded a L ​ egal Consulting Prize - bank of 3 
hours where 1 hour will be spent on a different topic such as 
incorporation, regulation, taxes etc. These topics will be 
decided by the team. 
 
 
5.2 Research Track:  
● Autorité des marchés financiers Prize: 
1 team will be given a cash prize of $5,000 CAD to be shared 
amongst the winning team members. This money is given 
as grant money. The money will be given by bank transfer 
from Fintech Cadence and the winning team will need to 
provide an invoice first in order to receive the prize. The 
transfer will take up to 14 days to be issued. 
 
● AI Launch Lab via V1: 
1 team will be awarded an access to a 5 ​Week Formathon 
Winner’s Program, including 15-20 hours of mentorship and 
support sessions from V1's data scientist. 
 
● Canada’s Lenders Association: 
CLA will provide 1 team mentorship hours by CLA as well as 
a complimentary CLA membership package.  
  
 
6. Photos and Videos 
I understand that photos and videos may be taken throughout the 
Formathon and Finale and may be used for promotional purposes. 
 
 
7. Warnings 
I understand if I am disrespectful to any stakeholders, Fintech Cadence 
may issue warnings. Pending my actions, I understand it may result in 
my expulsion from the Formathon Program.
