Backyard Gardening Mechanics and Criteria
Gulay-buhay is a youth vegetable gardening competition based in the barangays and spearheaded
by the Sanguniang Kabataan Federation Presidents of every City and Municipality. Gulay-buhay is an
initiative of the Office of the SK Panlalawigang Pederasyon President aimed at motivating the youth to
innovate ideas and possibilities by way of producing goods and creating opportunities hoping to ease the
effects of COVID-19 pandemic to the livelihood of Isabeleños.
1. The competition is open to all interested barangay Sangguniang Kabataan Councils. One
barangay can only have one entry.
2. For purposes of fair competition, the identified area for gardening should not be an existing
garden or a previously-managed garden.
3. SK Federation Presidents in Cities and Municipalities shall facilitate the competition at their level
and within their respective jurisdiction.
4. The competition will be launched during the provincial celebration of the Buwan ng Kabataan
and will run for a period of 90 days upon launching.
5. Only vegetable-bearing plants shall be allowed in the garden. All kinds of vegetables can be
planted depending on the preference of the participating SK council.
6. Participants shall employ organic gardening and shall not use any fertilizers for the duration of
the competition.
7. Participants shall register through their SK Federation Presidents.
