Dear Mr. Parker:

In an internet commercial, Nike Incorporated advertises multiple unsafe stunts followed by the
statement “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.” This commercial is
encouraging people to act in dangerous practices that can harm their well-being.

The commercial I viewed on November 1 st, 2018 on the website Sportchek.ca promotes the purchase of
sporting wear for an audience of athletes. The commercial provokes the athletes with a challenge of
skateboarding on stairs, surfing into enormous waves, losing a substantial amount of weight and
participating in sport with life-threatening limitations. For the majority of the untrained population
these acts can result in injuries or worse fatality. To urge the consumer to take part in “sacrificing
everything” is a disregard for safety.

The advertisement is in violation of Canadian Advertising Code 10 for a disregard of safety. I hope you
will revise this advertisement and keep this rule in mind for future campaigns.

Sincerely,

Cory Lazar
