instrument on the mayo tray observing the standard arrangement, below it draw the
instrument individually, label its part and give the specific uses.
STRAIGHT FORCEP

Used to grasp delicate tissue

and as well as a ratcheted
hemostat to secure and
clamp bleeding vessels.
Manufactured from medical
grade surgical stainless
steel.

CURVED FORCEP

Used to grasp tissue or vessels

that will be tied off and used in
blunt dissection.
ALICE

Alice clamp is surgical instrument

with sharp teeth, used to hold or
grasp heavy tissue. Also used to
grasp fascia and soft tissues such
as breast or bowel tissue.

BOBCOCK

Are finger ring, ratcheted,

nonperforating forceps used to
grasp delicate tissue. They are
frequently used with intestinal and
laparotomy procedures. Babcock
Forceps are similar to Allis forceps.
However, they may be considered
less traumatic due to their wider,
rounded grasping surface.
OCHSNER

OCHSNER

Ochsner are hemostats that are

helpful for clamping off blood
vessels to avoid bleeding during
procedures such as orthopedic
surgery. In order to clamp vessels
or grasp tissue, these forceps have
1x2 teeth on the tip of the serrated
jaws.

NEEDLE HOLDER

Also known as needle driver, is a

surgical instrument, similar to a
hemostat, used by doctors and
surgeons to hold a suturing needle
for closing wounds during suturing
and surgical procedures. The parts
of a simple needle holder are the
jaws, the joint and the handles.
TOWEL FORCEP

a perforating clamp used for

grasping tissue, securing towels or
drapes, and holding or reducing
small bone fractures.

NEEDLE HOLDER

Used to protect the wound from

bacterial contamination and also
used for a secondary dressing.
Gauze dressing is made up of
woven or non-woven fibres of
cotton, rayon, and polyester.
KNIFE / SCALPEL

arts and crafts (called a hobby knife). Scalpels may be single-
use disposable or reusable.

TISSUE FORCEPS

Are used in surgical procedures for grasping tissue The tips have
"teeth" to securely hold a tissue. Typically tissue forceps are
designed to minimize damage to biological tissue..
NEEDLE/ SUTURE

Suturing needles are used for general closure of skin,

subcutaneous tissue, etc, and sometimes used for ophthalmic
and plastic surgery. The point of the needle is triangular and
contains a cutting edge. Cutting needles are triangular in
shape, and have 3 cutting edges to penetrate tough tissue
such as the skin and sternum, and have a cutting surface on
the concave edge. Round bodied needles are used in friable
tissue such as liver and kidney.
2. Give the function of the Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse.

The function and the role of a Scrub Nurse are that they will prepare the operating
room for the patient, setting up the tools, and making sure that the field is sterile. Also, scrub
nurses assist the surgical team by donning sterile masks, gloves, and gowns as well as aid
the physician by passing instruments during surgery. A circulating nurse is an essential part
of the surgical team in an operating room. They are the ones to prepare the operating room
and checks the stock of supplies and instruments. The circulating nurse must check and
double-checked the necessary equipment needed for the said operation. If something is
missing or not in working order, the circulating nurse finds a solution. As a patient advocate,
the circulating nurse interacts with the patient before surgery and serves as a patient
protector during surgery. Assessing the patient right before surgery is critical to making sure
that all required prep was completed. Serving as a patient advocate and safety monitor, the
circulating nurse observes the surgery and ensures that no aspect of patient care is missed.
She also studies data and responds quickly if anything goes wrong. For outpatient surgery,
the circulating nurse confirms who will drive the patient home and who should receive
updates about the patient's progress.
