OVERVIEW

(COURSE DESCRIPTION)
This course introduces the different literary forms of genres, exemplified this time by selected
literary text from various countries, written at different periods of history . It also includes
discussions and practice of the different interpretative strategies and new literary theories.

INTRODUCTION
This module you will be able to read dreams, anxieties, joys, and problems experienced by the
people from the seven continents of the world. You will learn about their values, cultures,
nationalism, attitudes, thoughts, beliefs, feelings and experiences which are all reflected in their
writings in different literary forms like poetry and prose.

At the end of this module, you are expected to:


1. Reflect the breadth and depth of literature in other countries.
2. Deepen your understanding of the different literary genres.
3. Develop substantial reading, analytical, critical thinking and writing skills
4. Gain an appreciation of value and significance of cultural/artistic achievements.
5. Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the common and different values, ideals
and insights from different cultures and historical period.

INSTRUCTION TO THE USERS


At the start of the module, you are to take the pre-assessment test to see how much
background information and knowledge you have in World literature.
This module is self-instructional. You can read analyze concepts and ideas
presented, and reflect on them. The activities and self-Check question will help
you assess how you progress as you go through the module. If you need help and
further clarification, you can ask the assistance of a mentor or facilitator in your
school. It has been recommended that as much as possible, the mentor is a one of
family members. He or she may also be your department head

Your answers to self –check questions (SCQ’s) and Activities may be self-
evaluated by your mentor or facilitator if you desire. This will be part of your
formative evaluation.

Remember, you are to work on this module independently. I shall not be around to
supervise you as you go through each lesson. It is expected that you will make the
most of this module.
