1300 Series 60 Issue 1
New Starter Motor and Alternator January 2007

This service bulletin applies to all 1300 Series engines.


Due to Perkins continous product improvement program, a new and improved starter motor and alternator has
been introduced. The new starter motor and alternator will provide better cold start performance and improve
component reliabilty. The new starter motor and alternator can be fitted to existing 1300 Series engines with
the wiring modifications described below.
New Alternator
Illustration (A) shows the current alternator (FGW part number 981-099). Illustration (B) shows the new
alternator (FGW part number 10000-12087).
1 Positive battery terminal (A2) has moved approximately 100 mm, new connection is a M8 by 1.25 (B4)
2 Negative ground terminal (A3) has moved approximately 150 mm, new connection is a M6 by 1.0 (B3)
3 Signal wires (A1) have moved approximately 150 mm, 4 pin plug.

Note: Current alternator connections are 1/4” blade for the indicator lamp, 1/4” blade for phase. A Delphi plug
will be supplied with cable tails and bullet connectors. The new connections on the plug are the indicator lamp
(B2) and the phase (B1). This plug will need to be fitted to the wiring harness with a crimp tool. The wiring
harness (FGW part number 10000-16209) is supplied seperately.

New Starter Motor


Illustration (C) shows the current starter motor (FGW part number 973-622). Illustration (D) shows the new
starter motor (FGW part number 10000-12942).
1 Positive battery terminal (C1) has moved approximately 200 mm, new connection is a M12 by 1.75 (D1)
2 Negative ground terminal (C3) has moved approximately 50 mm, new connection is a M12 by 1.75 (D3)
3 Relay (C2) is now mounted on the starter. New starter M5 by 0.8. Switch wire now needs to be routed to
the starter terminal (D2)
