Options
DD are general purpose filters. The filters trap solid particles down to 1 micron with a max. oil carry-over of 0.5 mg/m3.
PD are high-efficiency filters, installed downstream of the DD filter. The filters trap solid particles down to 0.01 micron with
a max. oil carry-over of 0.01 mg/m3.
Oil
Air pressure forces the oil from oil separator/tank (11) through oil cooler (14) and
filter (15) to compressor element (10) and the lubrication points. In oil separator/
tank (11), most of the oil is removed centrifugally; the balance is removed by
separator (22).
The oil system has a temperature switch (16). Depending on the temperature of
the oil, this switch will start a fan (17) to cool the oil.
GX2 up to 4
Main components
- pressure switch (18), which opens and closes at preset pressure limits
- blow-off valve (65)

Operation
Pressure switch (18) opens and closes its contacts at pre-set pressures. During 18
loaded operation, the contacts are closed: the motor is running.
If the working pressure reaches the maximum limit, the contacts of the pressure
switch open: the motor will stop. After stopping, blow-off valve (65) opens and
the receiver pressure is released via blow-off valve (65) and air filter (8). When
the working pressure decreases to the pre-set minimum pressure, the contacts of
the pressure switch close and the motor restarts. The blow-off valve closes and
51175F
compressed air is supplied to the receiver again.
GX5 up to GX22
Main components
- pressure switch (18), which opens and closes at preset pressure limits
- unloader (19), including inlet valve (9) and unloading valve (42) 26
- loading solenoid valve (20)
Loading 27
As long as the working pressure is below the maximum limit, the solenoid valve
is energized allowing control air to flow to the unloader: the inlet valve opens 28
completely and the unloading valve closes completely. The compressor will run
fully loaded (100% output). 29
51176F
Unloading 30
If the working pressure reaches the maximum limit, the solenoid valve is de-
energized venting the control air: the inlet valve closes completely and the unloading
valve opens completely. The compressor will run fully unloaded (0% output).
In case the compressor keeps running unloaded for an uninterrupted period between
45 and 60 seconds, it will be stopped. The compressor will automatically restart
when the net pressure drops to the minimum limit.

The cold air then flows through condensate trap (57) which separates condensate
from the air. The condensate is automatically drained. The cold, dried air then 55
flows through heat exchanger (55), where it is warmed up by the incoming air (B).

2.1 Installation proposal
Important
To prevent a tank-mounted model from falling over during transport by a pallet
truck: push the forks underneath the air receiver and provide a wooden beam
(58) (section approx. 4x6 cm) through the supports at both sides of the receiver.
While holding the compressor, slowly lift the forks until the receiver is secured 58
between the beams. Move the compressor smoothly.
58
Ref. Description/recommendation
1 Install the rubber pads (delivered loose with the compressor) to the
compressor supports. Install the compressor on a solid, level floor suitable
for taking the weight. The recommended minimum distance between the
top of the unit and the ceiling is 900 mm. The air receiver must not be
bolted to the floor. The minimum distance between the wall and the back
of the compressor must be:
- 200 mm for GX2 up to GX4
- 150 mm for GX5 up to GX11
- 250 mm for GX15 up to GX22
2 Position of the compressed air outlet valve. Close the valve. Connect
the air net to the valve.
3 The pressure drop over the delivery pipe can be calculated as follows:
4 Ventilation: the inlet grids and ventilation fan should be installed in such
a way that any re-circulation of cooling air to the compressor or dryer is
avoided. The air velocity to the grids must be limited to 5 m/s.
Qv = 0.92 N / dT
Qv = required ventilation capacity in m3/s
N = nominal motor power of compressor in kW 51235F
dT = temperature increase in compressor room
- The voltage drop must not exceed 5% of the nominal voltage. It may be
necessary to use cables with a larger section than those stated to comply
with this requirement.

Attention
For overhauling or carrying out preventive maintenance, service kits are available
(see section 4.7). Atlas Copco offers also several types of Service contracts,
relieving you of all preventive maintenance work.
37
The "longer interval" checks must also include the "shorter interval"
checks. When servicing, replace all disengaged packings, e.g. gaskets, O-rings, 51187F
washers. Always use genuine Atlas Copco parts.
Whichever interval comes first. The local Sales Company may overrule the
maintenance schedule, especially the service intervals, depending on the
environmental and working conditions of the compressor.

Funcionamiento
GX5 a GX22
Componentes principales

Kompressorn arbetar helt avlastad (0% levererad luft).

fyllt.
2. Koppla till spänningen. 27
3. Öppna luftutloppsventil (12). Om den är installerad, stäng avtappningsventilen
för kondensat (5). 28
4. Ställ start/stopp-strömställaren (29) i läge I; strömställaren går automatiskt
tillbaka.

- Montera skruven.
För alla hänvisningar härefter, konsultera flödesscheman i avsnitt 1.2.
