CL WORLD CUP
Antonio Giandrini of TCA Racing Accessories and AA Models has advised that the British Model Flying Association and the Aero Club d’Italia
have joined forces to make this year’s Italian Coppa D’Oro control line meeting a combined British/Italian event which will also constitute the
2018 British World Cup contest. This event will take place on September 6 - 7, 2018 at the Francesco Baracca Airport in Lugo di Romagna, the
site of last year’s very successful Italian Coppa D’Oro meeting. Set in a wonderful Italian landscape, the World Cup event will feature all four
mainstream control line disciplines - F2A, F2B, F2C and F2D, while an Open International competition for F2F and F2G will also take place.
The venue offers outstanding facilities for both contestants and supporters, including camping opportunities. Attendees at last year’s Coppa
D’Oro event reported that a great time was had by all - the Italians really know how to show visitors a good time! The number of entries is
limited, so now is the time to register. This can be done directly on line at www.aeromodellugo.org

Off The Shelf A round up of new and innovative products for the disce

RDT compatible E-Zee timer from Dens Model Supplies

The well-established E-Zee Electric and IC Free Flight timers have been re-designed to incorporate an RDT (Radio
DeThermaliser) override that is compatible with the Aeris and Bodnar systems.
A separate module is available for those who wish to use a commercial RC system. This connects between the Rx
and the timer and converts the standard RC servo protocol to match that required by the timer.
Adding RDT has required two new pcbʼs, one for the CL timer and the other for the Free Flight versions, similar in
appearance but with detail changes to connectors and their identification markings depending on type.
Software for all types of timer has been updated to allow data entry to each feature directly rather than scrolling
through as previously.

E-Zee Timers are available from Dens Model Supplies. Cost £18.00 each plus
P&P, state which version you require when ordering.

EX-PAT PAT ON BACK!

Hello Andrew,
Thanks a lot for the copy of January AeroModeller. The Halo feature
was nice; so was the rest of the magazine. I found far more to absorb
me in that one issue than in any one (make that 2 or 3) years’ worth of
any American mag. Scant mention of RC and NO dreadful drone crap.

Just one minor correction - did I say somewhere that “I don’t do too
much aeromodelling these days”. Perish the thought! Indeed, now
that my diet has changed from intricate scale-RC jobs (necessary
to make a living) and returned to FF and CL models, my output has
increased manifold.
Cheers! Dave Platt.

Hi Dave,
I’m glad you enjoyed AM. Do put the word around in the USA that there
is still a proper aeromodelling magazine.

“Mea culpa” for the assumption about your modelling output! All the
best for many more years building and flying.
Andrew

The Mini Halo Free Plan in January AM gets Dave Platt’s seal of approval.

FROG CL KITS ARTICLE

Hi Andrew,
I love the AeroModeller, it features articles of exactly the right era for me.
For example, the FROG CL kits article in February was great. I
thought you might like to see my FROG Mosquito, with twin FROG 150
diesels. It was built from plan, rather than an original kit. It flew well,
but was probably too heavy to be aerobatic. It was covered in nylon
and dope, and well fuel proofed!
At one time, I grafted on PAW 149 silencers onto the FROGs, but
starting was more difficult and the power drop was significant, so they
came off again!
Could you do an article on Mercury CL kits? At school, our favourite
was the Mercury Marvin, usually with an AM15 engine. Both me and
my mate got through several of these.
Congratulations with the magazine, Tony Spillane

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your email. We’ve already covered Mercury CL kits back in
February 2015, but I’m sure Don Howie will uncover more old gems in
the future.
Regards, Andrew

NEW in the ‘HOW TO BUILD...’ series
How to Build...
TAMIYA 1:32 F4U-1A
and F4U-1D CORSAIR
When Tamiya released their 1:32 scale Spitfire
Mk.IXc in 2009, they set a new standard for plastic
model kits. Each model since then has seen
incremental improvements. Just when you think the
series can’t get any better, Tamiya goes and proves
you wrong.
Their 1:32 scale Birdcage Corsair was released
in mid-2013. This was an outstanding kit in every
respect.
Tamiya expanded their 1:32 scale Corsair family
with an F4U-1A in late 2014. This kit included
several new sprues and offered a wider range of
camouflage and marking possibilities.
Tamiya has now completed the -1 trio with their
new 1:32 scale F4U-1D Corsair. Once again, this kit
includes a significant number of brand new sprues
to depict the unique attributes of this variant.
We can also marvel at the kit’s subtle surface
textures, high level of detail, clever parts breakdown
and accuracy.
In this new book, we provide an exhaustive step-
by-step illustrated guide to building and detailing
the 1:32 scale F4U-1D and F4U-1A, offering plenty Only
of inspiration with two different configurations and £14.95
plus p&p
colour schemes.
We have also a bonus Chapter on building Tamiya’s
1:48 scale Corsair family, offer some tips for
painting pilot figures and include a helpful walk
around of a Corsair under restoration.
