Miñano: The Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez was one the twentieth

century’s greatest novelists. I know that you are writing a biography about him.
Can you tell us a bit more about this great writer?

James: Yes, that’s right. He was born in 1927 in Aracataca-Colombia and he died
in 2014 in Mexico. Also, he lived with his grandparents until he was nine.

Miñano: Oh is good knowing it. And tell us How did his career begin?

James: Of course. He went to university in 1946 to study law. But his real interest
was writing and he started writing newspaper articles while he was at university.

Miñano: How interesting! Did you know where and when Gabriel write his major
novel called One Hundred Years of Solitude?

James: Well, he wrote his most famous novel in Mexico, it took him 18 months and
the novel was published in 1967, it was an immediate, international success.

Miñano: Really? That means that Gabriel Garcia Marquez won the Novel Prize of
literature with that novel. I am right?

James: You are right. He received the novel prize in 1982. He travelled to Norway
to receive the Novel Prize for Literature.
