Lido Electrical Wholesale was formed by the brothers MacDonald in the late Nineteen
Sixties and started operating from premises in Main Street, Johannesburg. The business
proved to be a success and quickly grew to be recognized as “THE” place to shop at for all
your electrical requirements. A solid client base of diverse industrial end users, contractors
and other wholesalers realized and relied on Lido to provide unsurpassed service.

In 1982 premises were purchased and an 18000m² warehouse was built with 3000m² office
spaces, 2 Squash courts and change room facilities, was opened on the East Rand in Jet Park,
Boksburg, in order to provide a better and further reaching service to the many and growing
customer base in the area.

In 1993 it was decided to put each branch into a separate company, trading on its own as a
separate entity and hence the company, Lido Electrical (East Rand) PTY Ltd was formed.

Due to the efficiency of Management and staff the company continued to expand.

In 1997, Lido Electrical (Pretoria) PTY Ltd was formed due to the success and demand
within the northern region of Gauteng and the North West Province, this helped the Lido
group to expand more by adding to its list of agencies it already had, situated in the hart of
the industrial area in Pretoria West our accessibility to all major industries and mines all over
the area is very good adding to the excellent service we are known for in the area.

Lido Electrical (Pretoria) PTY Ltd started to grow and is now a strong force to be dealt with
and has worked its way up the ranks as the strongest electrical wholesaler in the northern
region so far as and into Zimbabwe and Botswana. Lido Electrical (Pretoria) PTY Ltd has
spread its wings into all sectors of the market from incline mines, open cast mining to shaft
sunk mines (from platinum mines to gold mines and coal and diamond mining) to the motor
sector and railway sector, large industrial companies too have benefited from the service
given by its technical and backup staff.

already formidable brands it has on offer to all their clients such as ABB, Cutler Hammer
and EIPS and EIPS cable support systems.

Once again the company excelled as greater demand from the Mpumalanga province was
placed on the company.

With a firm focus on Mining, Forestry and major industries, being a service excellence,
orientated company, Lido Electrical (Steelpoort) PTY Ltd was established in 2008 with
premises purchased in the Industrial zone of Steelpoort.

With the coal industry growing and the demand increasing steadily, plans are already in
place to expand into our neighboring countries like Mozambique and Swaziland.

With new growth in the Northern Province the Lido Group has expanded once more and by
the end of January 2010 Lido Electrical (Lephalele) PTY Ltd is to be formed with the
expertise of all the staff and support from its suppliers it to will grow into a formidable
company.

The Lido Electrical group currently employs 137 people with 36 internal sales staff and 19
serving as external company representatives and a total of 31 drivers.

Lido now boasts a fleet of 35 well maintained, reliable vehicles ranging from small Toyota
Tazz panel vans, though one ton bakkies to 2 eight ton trucks (one of which is equipped with
an on board crane) doing collections and deliveries twice a day in most of the areas serviced
by the respective branches.

The Lido Electrical group is proud of being one the largest independently owned electrical
wholesalers in South Africa. Lido Electrical group current stock holding exceeds 32
Million Rand and what we don’t have in stock; we will endeavor to obtain within the day.
Orders received by our sales staff by 11 am should be delivered to our customers by 4 pm on
the same day, subject to stock availability in our own stores as well as those of our various
suppliers.

We at Lido have realized the importance of training our staff members so they are able to
deal with most technical questions and applications of products. We have arrangements with
many of our suppliers to conduct regular product training for our staff.

Our suppliers, at our request, offer training courses as well as information and problem
solving sessions for our clients. These sessions are generally held at Lido’s various premises
but can also be held at alternate venues. (Arrangements need to be made and some have
courses costs involved)

Our Relationship with our suppliers is of such a high standard that we are able to negotiate a
pricing structure for our clients on a one to one basis, please consult with any of our sales
team or with our management team for a pricing structure to suit your needs.

Our normal trading hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 – 17:00, and Saturdays 8:00 – 1:00pm.
Lido Electrical offer a 24 hour breakdown service to our major customers having someone
on call at all times in case of emergencies, saving you our valued client, unnecessary wastage
of money due to down time in your plant and on your machinery.

For the past five years Lido Electrical (East Rand) has been awarded the supplier of the year
from Schneider Electrical South Africa.
During the year of 2006 we achieved the status of a Platinum distributor for the Schneider
Electric Group, who own Brand names such as Telemecanique, Merlin Gerin, Clipsal, Sarel
and Square D amongst others.
(The Lido group is currently Schneider’s biggest distributor of Telemechanique and Merlin
Gerin low voltage switchgear products in the country)

Over the past few years, Lido electrical has been dynamically driven and has become an
imposing and threatening presence to our competitors, many of whom try not to support us in
fear of further strengthening us.

With this in mind a decision was made to create a company under the Lido “Umbrella”
which would trade as a separate entity and service the wholesale and distribution orientated
clients within the electrical industry, hence the birth of Thorn Electrical Distributors and
EIPS Systems Company

EIPS is a South African based company specializing in the design, manufacture, and repair and servicing
of electrical equipment for mining, petrochemical and surface industries. The company was established
in 1999 and developed expertise in electrical equipment for hazardous and non-hazardous areas,
custom designed electrical power clusters, welding socket outlets and distribution panels. The proven
safety features of the patented EIPS electrical interlocking system being used on all the custom built
clusters and panels, has caused the company to be rewarded with big projects such as the Gautrain
project where the EIPS units were specified in the main central workshop located in Midrand. The
company also has its own mobile exhibition trailer being used to visit customers all over the country
with great success.
History:
The EIPS Company saw it's first days back in 1999 just before the new law related to plugs, socket
outlets and couplers intended for non-domestic use came into place. EIPS quickly realised that the
mechanically interlocked system has been around for ages, but has fallen behind with regards to
reliability, wear and tear, and most importantly, safety. We designed a revolutionary system that can
adapt to hazardous areas where the utmost care should be taken. Developed and patented right here
in South Africa and incorporating only proven components used in the South African industry, we offer
a complete range of Electrically Interlocking Systems to meet your needs and requirements, ensuring,
at all times, the safety or your working environment.
 Production:
As all items are manufactured by the respective companies according to the various standards which
are set down by the ISO and SABS standards, we at EIPS Systems Company combine all those
components together to make the unique EIPS socket which when professionally assembled, form the
patented product which you will now be the proud owner of. We have a team which assembles each
and every unit which is then inspected and tested by a qualified and certified controller to ensure that
your product is in one hundred percent working order.

Distribution and Availability;

Production time per order can range from order to order and while stock is kept in our stores to ensure
that a speedy delivery is always maintained, we however must be aware of other orders which are on
the production line. We distribute through major Electrical Wholesalers throughout South Africa and
also export our products. Our sales office is open from 08H00 – 17H00, 5 days per week and we have
emergency service on weekend and holidays. Standard stock items are dispatched within 24 hours.
Eips is situated in Pretoria West, Gauteng, which place us close to a number of large industries situated
in the cities, and the more rural coal, platinum and gold mining areas.

Thorn Electrical Distributors began trading on 1 March 2008 and is located Witfield,
Boksburg in the centre of an industrial area.

Thorn Electrical consist of management and administrative offices as well as warehousing

facilities. The activities of the company are briefly described below.

Thorn Electrical are importers of a range of products from various suppliers around the
world.

As part of the company’s core strategy, all products which we source, import and distribute
into are carefully selected and successfully targeted.

The company takes pride in their technical ability and ensures excellent backup exists from
our suppliers with technical and product support offered on all agencies we represent.

Thorn Electrical Distributors are the Sole distributors in South Africa for, Carlo Gavazzi
Automation Components, TIBOX Enclosures and recently, Palazzoli and Lewden industrial
plugs and sockets range.

These products have been carefully selected so that all can be promoted within our core
target markets.

Thorn Electrical distribute their range of products through selected electrical wholesaler’s
country wide, who, in turn provide back up service and promote the products to the end users
in their respective areas.

 African Night Sky Electrical Wholesale PTY LTD

In keeping the growth of the company in mind and keeping up with the BEE compliance of
business’s across the country Mark Mac Donald opened up African Night Electrical
Wholesale PTY LTD,

Working with all the knowledge and experience gained over the years with the Lido Group
we expanded into a field where our shareholders were happy with the overall package we
now had to offer all the exciting clients,

Over the course of the years fiber optics was becoming more and more in demand and we
started selling more and more products and equipment! We started working with small
independent companies installing fiber and getting involved with maintenance projects to
the point where we started to fund a few of the projects,

We then started to get involved in putting out our own teams and started getting involved in
fiber to home projects, all staff we sent out to site were in house trained from all the
manufactures of all the equipment we sold,

To date we have done the total maintenance contract for EMM and worked and maintained
the Absa main server room building, together with other work,

We have formed a JV with a company “Bolunga Systems” in working with them on various
site’s and projects,

Thus African Night sky Electrical wholesale PTY LTD now has a large range of Electrical
and Fiber services and supply networks and equipment, making us a “total package”
company been able to supply all the brand name items the Lido group could offer,

PROJECTS

To extend ourselves in the market place we have got more involved in projects from the
construction to the maintenance and supply of all materials pertaining to a project, this we do
buy getting involved from the beginning with all the engineers and major suppliers ensuring
that there is no hold ups in the projects,

We find ourselves growing and helping other smaller companies and in doing so we
contribute to the skills development of the local community, this is due to the locations we
find our teams working in, and thus as much local content used for our projects are bought
locally, and the work force is also sourced locally,

Our goals have moved to outside the boarders of the country and with the ever need for
service and skills we find that we can for fill those needs internationally ,
Projects would vary from building of substations laying of cables and repairing thereof
erecting of power lines, we supply all the spare parts needed for all repairs and building of
new power units we also supply all transformers needed for each substation and we also
include the repair of transformers,

This is a new company just formed in order to fall under the new regulations of BEE or
RET !
It will concentrate on all fiber related projects and will carry on giving the same service
as before,

During my life within the family business and running the sections of the business I always had the industry
of commodities around me and took the opportunity with all the contacts within the Chrome and Coal and
Iron ore industries I started on a very small scale trading in these commodities learning the skills of this
industry,

As the years went by, I found myself leaning more and more onto this industry as a source of income and
thus I decided to spread my wings and learn more about other products,

invested in a gold refinery in Kenya from which we supply gold into the market, our main clients being in
Dubai and Hong Kong, the diamonds we supply within the borders of South Africa to clients that fly in to
pick up there product,

I have to date supplied various clients who range from small private air strips to large countries needing fuel,
Jet A1, JP 54, D6 and D2 being the main line items,

I have been supplying fuel for the past 3 years and keep my clients very confidential at all times,

I have the capability to make sure that the procedure the client is needing is the right one for his
requirements and if not have the capability to guide them in a procedure which is most suited to them,
