Assignment- Cables

Due date: 12th May 20202

1. The cable supports the 150 N and

500 N loads shown. Determine the
distance xC and the tension in each
segment of the cable.

2. A cable supports a load of 50 kg/m

uniformly distributed with respect
to the horizontal and is suspended
from the two fixed points located
as shown. Determine the maximum
(Tmax) and minimum tensions (T0)
in the cable.

3. A 20-m chain of mass 12 kg is suspended between two points at the same elevation.
Knowing that the sag is 8 m, determine (a) the distance between the supports, (b) the
maximum tension in the chain.

4. Find the total length L of the cable

which will have the configuration
shown when suspended from the
points A and B.

5. A cable has a weight of 5 lb/ft. If it can span 300 ft and has a sag of 15 ft, determine the
length of the cable. The ends of the cable are supported at the same elevation.
