Other simulation runs were carried out to investigate the step response of the pump control

system at different valve spring initial compressions, when the pump is subjected to step

changes in the delivery pressure. The response curves at the initial compression values of 25

mm, and 35 mm were obtained. They showed to have the same nature of the curves

representing the response in the case of 30 mm initial compression shown in Fig. 2.10. For

the sake of comparison for the values of the initial compression, the settling time, maximum

percentage overshoot, and the integral of time absolute error (ITAE) are calculated in each

case, where:

The obtained results are presented in Figs. 2.19, 2.20, and 2.21.
