2 Effect of the Valve Size

Simulation runs were carried out to investigate the response of the pump control system at

different valve sizes represented by the valve perimeter πdv, when the pump is subjected to

step increases in the delivery pressure.

The design value of the valve perimeter πdvd is 8π mm. The response curves at valve

perimeter values of 0.75πdvd, 0.875πdvd, πdvd, and 1.125πdvd were obtained. For the purpose

of comparison, the settling time, maximum percentage overshoot, and the integral of time

absolute error (ITAE) are calculated at each value of valve perimeter, and presented in the

form of curves in Figs. 2.22, 2.23, and 2.24.
