Introduction: The International Classification of

Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF; World
Health Organization, 2001) integrates a
biopsychosocial model representing a
comprehensive and universally accepted
framework for describing functioning, disability
and health in persons with all kinds of health
conditions.

It contains more than 1400 categories associated with body functions,

body structures, activities and participation, and environmental factors;
however, not all of these categories are relevant to schizophrenia. Our
research team, in collaboration with the ICF Research Branch developed
in 2015 the Core Set of ICF categories for schizophrenia (Gómez-Benito
et al., 2017). Objective: Our aim is to describe the process to validate the first
version of the ICF-CS for schizophrenia across the six WHO regions
An ICF Core Set (ICF-CS) is a taking into account different and complementary perspectives (i.e.
selection of essential categories patients, caregivers, clinicians, and experts).
from the full ICF classification
considered most relevant to the
functioning of a person with a
specific health condition. Thus,
ICF-CS can serve as a minimum
standard for the assessment and
reporting of functioning and
health in different clinical settings.

Methods: The perspective of experts (i.e. psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and physiotherapists) has
been collected through Delphi studies. The perspectives of patients and caregivers have been planned to be collected through focus groups and
interviews. Finally, the perspective of clinicians will be capture by a cross-sectional multicentre study from the six WHO regions.
