Let us lay a foundation here.

In the beginning, God said, let us make man in our own image. God did not only create us in His
image, God has created us like He is. He didn’t only create us the way He is, He left his
qualities in us.

Psa 82:6  I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the
most High.

Joh 10:34  Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are
gods?

You are Gods

Now Because He has made us Like Him, He wants us to have faith and believe in Him and
ourselves

Rom 4:17  (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,)
before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and
calleth those things which be not as though they were.

We as children of God are expected to call those things which be not as though they
were when we are faced with Giants. No wonder the bible tells us in

Pro_18:21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they
that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
1Pe_3:10  For he that will love life, and see good days, let him
refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

We have the power to change our world with our words by speaking life and declaring those
things that are not, as though they are.

For our words to create supernatural realities, we have to say the right things.
We cannot go back and forth between faith and doubt. between speaking
positive words one moment and negative words the next.
Jas 1:6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is
like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Jas 1:7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the
Lord.
THE TITLE OF TODAY’S SERMON IS GETTING RID OF YOUR GIANTS
TEXT:

1Sa 17:1 Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle and were
assembled at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh
and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.
1Sa 17:2 Saul and the men of Israel were encamped in the Valley of Elah
and drew up in battle array against the Philistines.
1Sa 17:4 And a champion went out of the camp of the Philistines named
Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span [almost ten feet]
1Sa 17:32 David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of this
Philistine; your servant will go out and fight with him.
1Sa 17:46  This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will
smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of
the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild
beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in
Israel.
1Sa 17:47  And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with
sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our
hands.

So what is A Giant

- “Giants” are problems, pressures, pains, and persecutions we will have to face from
time to time in our lives.

WHAT ARE THE GIANTS THAT YOU ARE FACING TODAY?

• UNEMPLOYMENT
• DEBT
• DESEASES
• DEPRESSION
• ABANDONMENT
• ABUSE
• TRAGEDY
• BILLS
• WEAKNESSES
• REJECTION
• BROKEN RELATIONSHIP
• INABILITY
• ADDICTION
• TEMPTATIONS
• DISCRIMINATION
• FEAR
• PAST FAILURES
• DISCOURAGEMENT
• ANGER

Your words can either partner with God to destroy your giants and accomplish His purposes in
your life or partner with the devil to grow the giants in your life and allow them to always
terrorize you.
Giants did not fall from heaven, they grow. Just like when you feed a baby to grow, a giant is
born like a normal child but as you nurture the child he or she grows to an adult.
Giants are also like children, When you agree with the devil, you are feeding your giants e.g.
Giving the expression of can I ever be cured from this sickness, it will continue to grow and will
eventually not allow the healing to happen in your life.
Every sickness or desease in the life of any one here is destroyed in Jesus name

NOTES
1. Everyone will have to face giants at a point or several points in their life

The Children of Israel would normally go home for a day or two after they have enjoyed
a victory by God reigning stones on their enemies, sometimes make their
enemies kill themselves, sometimes God sends angels to fight on their
behalf.
But on this special day, they have been in the field for more than two days because God
wanted to teach us a great lesson which we will still read and learn today:

What they thought would be an easy victory had become difficult because of what
they were seeing in the natural realm. They didn’t just see a Philistine army coming
against them; they saw a giant named Goliath.

1Sa 17:4  And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines,
named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
1Sa 17:5  And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed
with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of
brass.
1Sa 17:6  And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass
between his shoulders.
1Sa 17:7  And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his
spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield
went before him.

Goliath was labeled as a mighty man in fact the bible called him a champion

2. Giants have the natural sight of fear and may make you a coward

1Sa 17:4  And there went out a champion out of the camp of the
Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a
span.

1Sa 17:8  And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto
them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine,
and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down
to me.

3. Giants will take away your fellowship and quiet time with their noise if you don’t
destroy them
Every morning and evening, Goliath would come out, causing the people of Israel to
freeze while listening to his words of mockery and blasphemy. No man in Israel ever said
a word to Goliath; he was the one who did all the talking for forty days and forty nights.
This means that roughly eighty times, the giant came out at Israel’s appointed worship
times—for they prayed and worshiped every morning and evening—and shouted
profanities and threats at them. Israel was at a standstill.

Also us when we have our quiet time in the morning or in the evening, that problem
keeps coming into our head. How do I get out of this debt instead of giving God who can
help us with our problems the quality time
WHAT DO I DO TO DEFEAT

 Show up for the battle ready to fight.

Sometimes you don’t get to pick the place or the time. . .but you must always be ready for the fight. You can
only fight properly if you have been practicing with your weapon before the battle. You can only use the word
of God to fight the enemy if you have been soaking yourself in it before battle time.
Sickness will not let you know in advance when it is coming hence you must be ready to fight at anytime
When battle comes, one thing you are sure of as a child of God who has always been preparing by soaking
himself in the word of God is victory.

In vs. 33, King Saul didn’t think David was prepared, but we know he was. How did
David get ready?

1Sa 17:33  And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war
from his youth.

Understand that “We see no military career for David prior to this. We just see a young
man tending sheep and spending a lot of time worshiping God. So where was his
training? -- That was his training: spending time with God!

Also us, our training is against the giants in our lives is when we spend time with God.

And though he probably didn’t know it God was preparing David for service. David grew
to know God worshipping Him privately. Now, God could reward him openly. You never
really know what kind of emergency you can handle, after you’ve spent quality time with
God.” (2)

2.         Don’t run from the battle.

1 Samuel 17:24 says:
“And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.”

Ignoring a problem will never make it go away or lessen the intensity of the battle your facing.
Do you know that they could have attacked and killed goliath if they all rush and fight him but
they allowed him to dictate how the battle will be fought and the agreed with him just like the
devil suggests and wants us to agree with him.
1Sa 17:8  And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto
them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine,
and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down
to me.
1Sa 17:9  If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your
servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our
servants, and serve us.

Understand that the one with you in battle is the Almighty and if he says no one can overturn this is why
how you read the bible is important

Psalm 118:6 the Message Bible says:

Psa 118:6  The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto
me?

 You must have the final and last say.

You must silence the chatter of the enemy and declare powerful, faith-filled words.
David had the last word over the enemy, and in turn, David was victorious. Remember that your
enemy is constantly speaking to you, just like Goliath was speaking to David and taunting the
army of Israel. He wants you to agree with what he is saying, for in that agreement is our
defeat. It is a warfare of words that is taking place, and you have the final say in what comes to
pass.

1Sa 17:44  And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy
flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
1Sa 17:45  Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a
sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name
of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast
defied.
1Sa 17:46  This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will
smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of
the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild
beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in
Israel.
1Sa 17:47  And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with
sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our
hands.
Pro_18:21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love
it shall eat the fruit thereof.
So when you have that terrible dream, don’t keep quiet, speak about it
i.e. This shall not happen neither shall it come to pass
When the devil is suggesting failure to your mind, respond, don’t keep quiet reply and reply
again and again, therein lies your victory.
You must open your mouth and be ready to respond to the Devil. Don’t only respond in bible
verses, expand the bible verses and give them expression.

DO YOU HEAR YOUR GIANTS SHOUTING?

• You are not qualified for that job! The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof;

• You are not good enough! God made me in his own image so I am perfect
• You can’t pay your bills!
• You can’t save your marriage!
• You are losing your kids!
• You cannot stop your habits!
• you can’t refuse pornography!
• You can’t stop your forbidden relationship
• You can’t shake your past failures
• You don’t have a bright future!
• Your life is a mistake!

What will you do

When David was faced with the giant, listen to his words: “The Lord who
delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver
me from the hand of this Philistine.”

5.         You choose the weapons.

There are three things you should know when it comes to choosing your weapons.
First, get rid of anything that doesn’t work for you.
Eliminate anything that can be weaknesses or that will restrict you movement and possibilities of success.
1 Samuel 17:38-40 in the Contemporary English Version says:
“Saul had his own military clothes and armor put on David, and he gave David a bronze helmet to wear.
David strapped on a sword and tried to walk around, but he was not used to wearing those things.  "I can't
move with all this stuff on," David said. "I'm just not used to it."
While King Saul’s armor didn’t weigh as much as Goliath’s it’s generally agreed by historians that his armor
weigh between one and two hundred pounds.  If you’ve never been used to wearing that much gear. . .it would
be a heavy unmanageable load.
In the marketplace. . .remember that just because somebody else does something that it may not work the same
way for you.
Second, find something that will work for you.  Play to your strengths.
1 Samuel 17:40 in the Contemporary English Version says:
“David took off the armor and picked up his shepherd's stick. He went out to a stream and picked up five
smooth rocks and put them in his leather bag. Then with his sling in his hand, he went straight toward
Goliath.”
David’s weapons of choice wouldn’t work for anybody else but him. . .but that’s okay because he was the only
one headed to the field of battle.
Third, you have weapons that can defeat every foe.
2 Corinthians 10:4 in the Amplified Bible says:
“For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before
God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.”
You have weapons at your disposal which are undefeatable in every battle you will ever face.
The Message Bible translation of 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 gives an even clearer picture of your arsenal and the
purpose of your warfare.
“The world is unprincipled. It's dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn't fight fair. But we don't live or fight
our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren't for marketing or manipulation,
but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for
smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose
thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for
clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.”
I strongly suggest that you listen to or read that verse one more time.

CUT OFF THE ENEMY’S HEAD –v 51

1Sa 17:51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the scabbard. After
he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and
ran.

• Cut off evil communications

• Cut off elicit relationship
• Cut off bad habits and addications
• Cut off pornography
• Cut off alcoholism
• Cut off dishonesty
• Cut off adultery and infidelity

Conclusion:

*Will we ever face a giant as big as Goliath? -- Someday we will. But just like David, we
can win!

*Marshall Douglas is a pastor I have known for over 20 years. One time we were sitting
together during a surgery up at Glenwood Hospital, and Marshall pulled a small rock out
of his pocket. Then he said, "This is from the Valley of Elah. That's the valley where
David killed Goliath, and he did it with a stone like this. And I keep this stone in my
pocket to remind people that God is still able to knock down the giants in your life."
*Someday we will face giants. But just like David, we can win! The time to get ready is
now. So seek the right attitude toward your people, your problems, and your Provider.

*The first step is to put your trust in the God who gave the victory to David. His name is
Jesus Christ!

-He loves you.

-He died on the cross for you.

-And He rose again from the dead.

-He is the Judge of the living and the dead.

-And you are guilty before Him.

*But Jesus will forgive you, if you will call on Him to save you.

-You should do that right now as we go to the Lord in prayer.

I know your enemy, Satan, is bearing down hard, and he is fully equipped with the latest up-
to-date weapons called AIDS, ALS, cancer, and diabetes, and the death reports are
frightening and overwhelming. But as a Christian, you have an even greater weapon in your
sling, "Jesus, the Rock." You pull back, and let your faith loose, and that giant will tumble
down!
