Title/Focus Golf
 

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES


GLO:
 A: Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement
activities; dance, games, types of gymnastics, individual activities and activities in an alternative
environment; e.g., aquatics and outdoor pursuits.
 B: Students will interact positively with others.

SLO:

 A8-5 demonstrate ways to receive, retain and send an object with varying speeds, accuracy and
distance in skills specific to an activity
 A8-6 select, combine and perform manipulative skills by using elements of space awareness,
effort and relationships, with and without objects, to improve performance

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Understand and implement fundamental techniques of throwing a disc
2. Demonstrate an understanding of a proper warm up/cool down including stretching
3. Observe and make adjustments in order to improve control and accuracy of throws

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT


 Frisbee/ Disc Golf Discs (1 per student)
  Disc golf baskets (targets)

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS


 Retrieval of discs
  Spatial awareness (trees, creek, traffic etc)
  Ensure there are enough discs 

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time

 Mr. Woolf is going to come in and teach some techniques and throws 10 min
for disc golf
 Stretching 
 Warm up = Dynamic stretching

 Dynamic stretches are active movements where joints and muscles go


through a full range of motion. They can be used to help warm up your
body before exercising
 Dynamic stretches can be functional and mimic the movement of the
activity or sport you’re about to perform. For example, arm circles,
trunk twists etc.
  Fundamentals of throwing a disc
 Accuracy is more important than power
 Maintaining a flat and smooth release
 Using the whole body to throw opposed to just using arms
  Review of safety and etiquette 
 Silence while opponents shoot and congratulating good shots
 Spatial awareness of vehicles and hazards

Body Time

Disc Golf 20 min


Warm Up 1. Show students the different types of discs
1) Driver
2) Midrange
3) Putter
2. Explain what they are used for (driver = first throw, midrange =
next throws, putter = anything 10 feet and in)
3. In the gym there will be a net for students to throw to
4. Partner “rally” throws
 Partners will share a disc and face each other spaced
about 5 feet apart. Alternate throwing the disc to one
another and with each successful throw slowly take a
step back further apart.

Field 30 min
1. Students will head out to the football field to test throwing the
discs and get used to the various weights
2. Students will need to space out and throw one at a time to get
familiar with it
3. Safety = when students throw, they need to wait to get their disc
until everyone has thrown so no one gets hit

Practice 10
1. If time allows, students will have target practice with hula
hoops or small nets to aim with markers to start
2. Students will be paired up
3. Safety and spatial awareness
