MTE Project Proposal

Improving efficiency in CNC machining with tool path optimization by using bio
engineered genetic algorithms.

Summary:

The production efficiency has an important role for all manufacturing processes, especially in
CNC(Computer Numerical Control) machining where production speed depends upon time
required for machining. Tool path optimization is necessary for machining as it decreases
production time, production cost and increases production efficiency .

The proposed solution is obtained by using a genetic algorithm which uses an iterative survival
of the fittest approach to reduce the problem to one that is similar to the Travelling Salesman
Problem to minimize the non-cutting travelling distance.

The authors propose to optimize the tool path by using the above mentioned method thereby
reducing production time and cost and improving production efficiency.
