URINALYSIS
Purpose:

TEST FOR SUGAR (BENEDICT'S METHOD)

Materials Needed:

1. Benedict's qualitative reagent

2. 10 ml test tube
3. Test tube holder
4. Alcohol lamp
5. Dropper
6. Urine Specimen
 PROCEDURE
1. Place  about 6- 8 drops of  urine in  a 10-ml test tube .
2. Add 3-5 ml of Benedict’s qualitative reagent.
3. Light the alcohol lamp.
4. Using the test tube holder, hold a mixture over the flame. Noting the
mouth of the test tube is held away from you.
5. Bring to boil.
6. Remove from the flame, and then put out the  flame.
INTERPRETATION
Negative-  Clear blue
+- Bluish green
++- Yellow Green
+++- Yellow
++++- Orange
TEST FOR PROTEIN(ACETIC ACID TEST)

Materials:

1. Acetic Acid Qualitative Reagent

2. 10 ml test tube
3. Test tube holder
4. alcohol lamp
5. Dropper
6. Urine Specimen
PROCEDURE

1. Fill the test tube about 2/3 of clear urine.

2. Heat the upper portion of the tube until it boils.
3. Add 5 drops of 10% acetic acid, one drop at a time.
4. A white precipitate forms giving rise to positive
albumin.
INTERPRETATION
No turbidity- Negative
Faint Turbidity- +
Moderate Turbidity - ++
Heavy Turbidity- +++
Solid Opaque - ++++
