Senior Senator from WV Junior Senator from WV

September 8, 2020
Senator Manchin and Senator Moore-Capito,

As West Virginia’s school aged children go back to school and our parents go back to
work, childcare has become an increasingly urgent matter that needs to be addressed here at
home. The Division of Early Care and Education has been told that assistance for child care
was made through the first round of CARES Act funding and, as a second wave of relief
spending has not yet been approved by the Federal House and Senate, providers who are not
registered as critical care sites or who are closed due to the public health crisis will not receive
child care payment reimbursement after September 15, 2020.

We, the WV Democratic House Women’s Caucus, urge you to make this second round
of CARES Act funding your first priority as you go back into session this week so that our child
care providers’ needs may be met.

Sincerely,

cc: The Honorable David McKinley, Representative WV-01
