Abstract:

The aim of this study is to create a built environment that integrates the concept of Organic
Architecture in its design to connect the external natural environment with the athletic
community, thereby creating a healthy atmosphere that is generated between the building itself
and the activities of the users within.

Space Requirements:

a. Main Building/ Indoor Gymnasium

 Lobby
 Admin Office
 Manager’s/President’s Office
 Accounting
 Booking
 Personnel
 Conference Room
 Ticket Area
 Clinic/Emergency Facility
 Toilets/Showers
 Storage Space
b. Indoor Sports Facility
 Table Tennis
Room Dimensions with Lighting (Minimum):

International Events, 14m x 7m 1000 lux

World Championships & 5m above the floor
Olympic Games
National Tournaments 12m x 6m 750 – 1000 lux
4m above the floor
National League/ 10m x 5m 500 lux
Representative Matches 3m above the floor
Local League/Local 9m x 5m 500 lux
Tournaments 3m above the floor
Recreational Play and 8.5m x 4.12m 300 lux
Coaching 3m above the floor

Materials:

a. Floors –
Wooden semi-sprung floors provide the best surface while solid concrete and
carpeted floors are totally unsuitable. Floors must be non-slip, non-reflective
and have a good contrast between the table top surface and the surrounding
areas, noth for the benefit of the players and spectators.
b. Walls –
Walls must be non-reflective and painted with a dark color up to a height of at
least 2.5m. Above 2.5m, wall should be painted with a lighter color. Windows
or external light sources must be covered.

c. Barriers –
Barriers must be collapsible rather than solid, so that they won’t harm any
player who runs into them.
1.5m long and 75cm high and should completely enclose the playing area

Temperature:

a. Ideal room temperature – 15-20°C

b. Relative Humdity – 40-50%
c. Adequate Ventilation; Any condensation will make the floor slippery and will
cause the ball to slide off the racket if you’re using reverse rubber.
d. If there are any air-conditioning units, you’ll also need to ensure that they
don’t cause any air currents which will deflect the flight of the ball.

 Badminton
Dimensions:

Singles Court 5.18m x 13.41m

Doubles Court 6.09m x 13.41m

Ground space is 1620 sq. ft. minimum to the edge of the pavement.

Materials:

Surface is to be concrete or bituminous material with optional protective

colorcoating for permanent installation. Badminton may be played on a turf court
for general recreational use, with surface drainage as described above at a
minimum slope of 2% and adequate underdrainage.

 Weight Training/Fitness Gym

Dimensions:

A minimum 3.66m ceiling height is generally required in this space type to

accommodate the clearances needed for daily equipment usage.

Materials:
Special surfaces are also required for many athletic activities such as cushioned
training surfaces, mirror walls or impact-resistant walls.

Increased structural steel is typically provided to reduce vibration transmission.

Exercise and weight rooms, including equipment storage rooms, should be
designed for a 150lb/sq. load.

Reduce noise impact generated by physical activity, by including sound baffles at

all acoustically rated partitions, in particular exercise and weight rooms and tenant
demising partitions.

Special HVAC: Employ measures to reduce moisture and odor mitigation to other
spaces – assume this space type requires a 20% increase in cooling capacity above
the overall building shell and core. Provide a separate AHU for exercise areas.
Fitness centers will typically have negative air pressure relative to other areas of
the building.

c. Outdoor Facilities
 Track and Field Court

Dimensions:

Ground space is approximately 4.3 acres.

Inside radius to face of curb is 106ft.

Track width is 31ft. for eight 4ft.-wide lanes.

Overall width is 276ft.

Overall length is 600.02ft.

Maximum slopes for the running track are 2% (1:50) inward in the center of
curves, 1% (1:100) inward in the straightway and 0.1% ( 1:1000) in the running
direction.

Materials:

Track surface is to be preferably bituminous material with a hot plant cushion

course mix and optional protective colorcoating. Drainage must be provided for
the track surface and optional football field, but will be dependent upon site
grading.

 Soccer

Dimensions:

Ground space is 75,250 sq.ft. to 93,100 sq.ft.

Playing field width is 195ft. to 225ft.

Length is 330ft. to 360ft.

Additional area recommended is 10ft. minimum unobstructed space on all sides.

Materials:

Surface is to be turf. Preferred grading is a longitudinal crown with a 1% slope

from center to each side and adequate underdrainings. Grading may be from side
to side or corner to corner diagonally if conditions do not permit the preferred
grading.

 Volleyball Court/s

Dimensions:

Ground space is 4000 sq.ft.

Playing court is 30 x 60ft.plus 6ft. minimum, 10ft. preferred, unobstructed space
on all sides.

Materials:

Recommended surface for intensive use is to be bituminous material or concrete,

but sand-clay or turf may be used for informal play. Drainage is to be end to end,
side to side or corner to corner at a minimum slope of 1in. in 10ft.
