London Transport route changes March 1983

05.10.81 Kentish Town West station reopened (closed 18.04.71 following fire damage).

31.10.81 Blake Hall station closed.

13.11.81 London Fields station closed for five years following fire damage.

17.05.82 Wood Green (B.R.) station renamed Alexandra Palace.

24.09.82 Bakerloo Line services withdrawn north of Stonebridge Park.

14.05.83 Woodside – Sanderstead line closed with the resulting closure of Bingham Road, Coombe Road, and Selsdon
stations.

16.05.83 Dalston Kingsland station opened.

11.07.83 Bedford – Moorgate services inaugurated including the opening of King’s Cross Midland City station.

03.10.83 Coulsdon North station closed.

04.06.84 Bakerloo Line services extended from Stonebridge Park to Harrow & Wealdstone.

17.03.85 Eltham Well Hall and Eltham Park stations closed and replaced by new Eltham station.

13.05.85 Homerton station reopened (closed 15.05.44).


North London Line services from Richmond rerouted to North Woolwich instead of Broad Street, leaving Broad
Street with just a handful of peak-hour services from Watford Junction.

08.07.85 Lea Bridge station closed.

12.04.86 Heathrow Terminal 4 station opens.

12.05.86 B.R. services reinstated between Kensington Olympia & Willesden Junction.

30.06.86 Broad Street station closed, including the whole railway line as far as Dalston and resulting also in the closure of
Dalston Junction station. At this time Broad Street was only served by a handful of peak-hour services from
Watford Junction, and these services were diverted to Liverpool Street via the reopened Graham Road curve.

29.09.86 London Fields station reopened.

11.05.87 Stepney East station renamed Limehouse.

31.08.87 Docklands Light Railway opened: Tower Gateway – Island Gardens – Stratford.

04.10.87 Silvertown station renamed Silvertown & London City Airport (LCA opens 26.10.87).

16.05.88 Thameslink services introduced between Farringdon & Blackfriars via reopened Snow Hill tunnel.
King’s Cross Midland City renamed King’s Cross Thameslink, and West Hampstead Midland renamed West
Hampstead Thameslink.
Farringdon – Moorgate services reduced to peak hours only.

15.05.89 Clapham station renamed Clapham High Street.

24.10.89 Surrey Docks station is renamed Surrey Quays.

29.01.90 Holborn Viaduct station is closed.

14.05.90 Harringay Stadium station renamed Harringay East.

29.05.90 St. Paul’s Thameslink station opened.

08.07.91 Harringay East station renamed Harringay Green Lanes.

29.07.91 DLR extended to Bank.

30.09.91 St. Paul’s Thameslink station renamed City Thameslink.

00.11.91 Canary Wharf station opened.

16.03.92 Westbourne Park B.R. station closed; Hammersmith & City Line station remains unchanged.

28.09.92 Last remaining services between Watford Junction & Liverpool Street withdrawn, resulting in the closure of
Primrose Hill station and the Graham Road curve.
Lower Edmonton Station renamed Edmonton Green.

23.10.92 Mornington Crescent closed for five and a half years for refurbishment.

28.03.94 DLR extended from Poplar to Beckton.

01.04.94 Waterloo & City Line transferred from British Rail to London Underground.

29.05.94 North London Line services suspended between Stratford & North Woolwich in connection with the Jubilee Line
extension for around 18 months.

30.09.94 Aldwych station closes.


Ongar and North Weald stations close.

14.11.94 Passenger services commence between Waterloo International & Paris or Brussels.

25.03.95 East London Line closed for rebuilding for three years.

29.10.95 North London Line services restored between Stratford & North Woolwich.

15.01.96 Pudding Mill Lane station opened.

25.03.98 East London Line reopened between New Cross or New Cross Gate & Whitechapel after being closed for three
years for rebuilding.

27.04.98 Mornington Crescent reopened after being closed for five and a half years for refurbishment.

29.09.98 East London Line reopened between Whitechapel and Shoreditch.

14.05.99 First section of the Jubilee Line extension opened between North Greenwich & Stratford.

19.08.99 Canada Water station opened on the East London Line.

17.09.99 Next section of the Jubilee Line extension opened between Bermondsey & North Greenwich (thus now
Bermondsey & Stratford).

24.09.99 Next section of the Jubilee Line extension opened between Waterloo & Bermondsey (except for London Bridge)
(thus now Waterloo & Stratford).

07.10.99 London Bridge (Jubilee Line) station opened.

20.11.99 Section of Jubilee Line between Green Park & Charing Cross abandoned with trains diverted at Green Park to
Westminster and on to Waterloo & Stratford.
DLR extension to Lewisham opened, including a rebuilt Island Gardens station under ground, and a resited
Mudchute station.

09.12.06 North London Line services withdrawn Stratford & North Woolwich.

12.11.07 London Overground launched with the takeover of the North London Line (Richmond & Stratford), the Gospel
Oak-Barking Line, and the Euston-Watford Junction Line from Silverlink Metro.

14.11.07 Channel Tunnel Eurostar trains diverted from Waterloo International to St. Pancras International.

09.12.07 Langdon Park station opened.

22.12.07 East London Line (New Cross or New Cross Gate & Whitechapel) permanently closed as a London Underground
line and reopened in 2010 as a London Overground line.

27.03.08 Heathrow Terminal 5 station opened.

10.01.09 DLR extended from King George V to Woolwich Arsenal.

23.10.09 South Quay station resited.

13.12.09 Circle Line services to Hammersmith commenced and circular operation withdrawn.

27.04.10 London Overground services commenced between Dalston Junction (reopened) & New Cross or New Cross Gate
via the former Broad Street line (closed 1986) to Shoreditch then via the former East London Line (closed 2007).
New stations opened at Haggerston, Hoxton, and Shoreditch High Street (as well as the reopened Dalston Junction
(closed 1986)).

23.05.10 London Overground service extended from New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace & West Croydon.

28.02.11 London Overground service extended from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington.

31.08.11 DLR Stratford International extension opened.

09.12.12 London Overground service extended from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction.

31.05.15 Services between Liverpool Street & Enfield Town, Cheshunt via Seven Sisters, and Chingford transferred to
London Overground operation, along with the Romford – Upminster Line.

31.05.19 Angel Road Station closed (replaced by Meridian Water)

03.06.19 New Meridian Water Station is opened to the south of the old Angel Road Station.

D16 New route commences from Barking Park to IOD Asda as per TLB 293 p.36 except that it is numbered D16 not
D15.

Friday 7 July
D12 New route commences from Globe Town to IOD Asda as per TLB 293 p.36 (TLB 300 p.38).

Monday 4 September
D14 New route commences from Stratford to IOD Asda as per TLB 293 p.36 (TLB 301 p.34).

Monday 4 December
D21 New route commences from Lewisham to Surrey Quays Shopping Centre as per TLB 293 p.36 (TLB 305 p.37)
