Although cracks in reinforced concrete structures may indicate significant structural problems.

However, it is unrealistic to expect plain concrete floors or even reinforced slabs-on-ground that are
free of cracks. Some cracks are expected to be occurred on every construction project due to many
specific causes related to poor construction practices. Two practices that can result in extensive
cracking in the reinforced concrete floors are the common practice of adding water to the concrete
mix to improve its workability and the lack of prompt curing.

Early and proper curing procedures of the reinforced concrete floors, either by using moisture-
retaining covers, liquid curing compound or other curing methods, are very important to minimize
cracking and should be started as soon as possible after the completion of finishing operations. The
local code of practice and international standards have emphasized on the necessity and the
importance of concrete curing. However, contractors, construction engineers, and specialists still
tend to completely ignore the concrete curing.
